Is full glam making a comeback, or do we just want a really dramatic lash? We dig into Pinterest’s beauty report, from frosted makeup and grunge eyeliner to increasingly specific manicures—and why everything sounds like something we’d order for dessert.

G-L-A-M, Gloss Angeles.

Kirbie Johnson (0:15)

A plea?

Sara Tan (0:16)

Yeah. For you, a pitch, a plea. You haven't watched Felicity, right? Okay, here we go. Here, here we go. Okay, so this is my plea.

It is available to watch on Netflix.

Kirbie Johnson (0:31)

I know this. I saw the promos.

Sara Tan (0:33)

I am thrilled.

If you don't know, it is one of my favorite shows. Okay, so why do you, Kirbie Johnson, need to watch it? Because one, I will be rewatching it and we can do it together.

Kirbie Johnson (0:44)

Okay.

Sara Tan (0:46)

Do you know what the show is about?

Kirbie Johnson (0:47)

No, but I know she gets a big haircut at one point and it was very dramatic. And it ruined the show. Yes.

Sara Tan (0:52)

The ratings went down.

Kirbie Johnson (0:53)

It was crazy.

Sara Tan (0:54)

Okay, so for those of you listeners and Kirbie, who do not know about Felicity, the show came out in 1998 We were 11

Kirbie Johnson (1:03)

Yes.

Sara Tan (1:04)

Crazy. I had no business watching this show when I was 11

Kirbie Johnson (1:08)

I was also watching Dawson's Creek at this time.

Sara Tan (1:10)

Yes.

Kirbie Johnson (1:10)

I don't know why Felicity didn't come on to my radar.

Sara Tan (1:14)

That was also on the WB. I think it was like an hour later or, I don't remember what it was. It was a little bit more for not mature audiences. I just know my sisters were watching it and I did whatever they did. Yeah. So I watched the show. I was obsessed with this show. It was, I think it was the reason why, one of the reasons why I was like, I'm going to go to NYU.

I'm going to like move and fall in love with my crush.

Yeah. So this show ruined me. It made me delusional. But just to give you the premise.

Kirbie Johnson (1:45)

Okay.

Sara Tan (1:45)

Felicity is played by Carrie Russell. She is a very studious, academically driven bookworm. One would say nerd in high school. She's a senior. They're graduating.

And she has loved this man, Ben Covington, played by Scott Speedman.

Kirbie Johnson (2:05)

Okay.

Sara Tan (2:06)

How could you not have watched it just for Scott Speedman?

Kirbie Johnson (2:08)

So cute.

Sara Tan (2:09)

This I think was like the start of my love for tall blonde men. So she's like, this was her high school crush. And I'm not going to give too much away, but in the first episode, it's graduation. Felicity has her yearbook and she goes up to Ben and she asks him to sign it. And which is like a lot because they're not friends. They barely talked. She's in love with him. She's a big crush. She's like, will you sign my yearbook? And he was like, sure.

Takes his time, sits down, writes some long thing in her yearbook. He walks away and she of course immediately reads it. And it's like, I've always looked at you and wondered what you were thinking. Like what was in your head? I wish I would have asked you. Like, goosebumps. And so immediately Felicity is like, this man has been thinking about me too. And then he's walking away and she's like, where are you going next year? And he's like, New York.

Derails her college plans. She was supposed to go to Stanford. She's also going to New York now.

Kirbie Johnson (3:12)

Oh my God.

Sara Tan (3:13)

So this show follows Felicity's college journey from freshman through senior year.

And there's a love triangle. There's her cute RA, Scott Foley. Amy Jo Johnson is in this show.

Kirbie Johnson (3:29)

Amy Jo Johnson? Pink Power Ranger Suzy Q?

Sara Tan (3:33)

Yep.

Kirbie Johnson (3:33)

Wow. We really bring it on back. Yep. We bring it on back.

Sara Tan (3:36)

It's, she, I would just remember this because I was watching all the previews for it. She, the way that the show goes, it's narrated by herself.

These self-recorded tapes that she records to her off-screen best friend who is played by Janine Garofalo.

Kirbie Johnson (3:53)

Oh my God. Amazing.

Sara Tan (3:54)

It's just her voice. It's just Janine's voice. You don't ever see her. But Felicity, like, it's basically like a journal of her telling, like, her friend what's going on. She records it on a tape recorder and then, like, takes the tape and sends it to her friend. It's like very 90s, which is just like so funny that she does that. The show is just like, it's just so good. So much drama.
