A podcast transcript is the full text of an episode: who said what, in order. Search above, open the episode, and read the start of it for free. Spoken has transcripts for thousands of shows. The full version has the real names of the speakers instead of "Speaker 1", and a timestamp on every turn.

How to get a podcast transcript

  1. Search for the episode. A show's name, a guest, or a few words about the topic all work. So does the episode's link from Spotify or YouTube, which is the most precise way to land on one specific episode.
  2. Read the free excerpt. The episode title in the results opens its page, with the first part of the transcript on it. That is enough to check it is the conversation you were looking for.
  3. Get the whole transcript. The full transcript costs one credit. The smallest pack is 100 credits for $15, and they never expire. Read it on the page with the speakers named. If you work in a terminal, the same transcript comes back as a Markdown file. Re-reading an episode you already fetched is free.

What a podcast transcript looks like

**Matthew Walker** (6:25)
Yeah, I think we, many of us can resonate with the idea of dental hygiene,
but turns out there's something called sleep hygiene. …

**Andrew Huberman** (12:18)
There are a couple of quick points that are based on some what I consider
really nice studies. …

That is from the free demo episode, a Huberman Lab conversation you can read in full without paying. The paragraphs follow the pauses in the conversation, so it reads like a document and not like subtitles.

Popular shows

Each of these pages lists the show's episodes and says how many have a transcript.

The full list of podcasts with transcripts has every show, and topics groups episodes by subject.

Does every podcast have one?

No. Spoken has transcripts for shows that publish them. That covers most of the popular shows in English and several other languages, and it misses many small ones. The search answers it in one step: if the episode appears, its transcript is available. A new episode's transcript can arrive a few hours after the episode does.

If you want to transcribe your own recording

Spoken is the wrong tool for that. It gives you transcripts of episodes that are already published; it does not take an audio file. For your own show before release, or a recording that is not a podcast, use a speech-to-text tool. Why Spoken isn't a transcription API explains where the line is.

For scripts and agents

The same search and the same transcripts are available as an API, which is what this site runs on. The demo key pt_demo needs no signup.

curl -G https://spoken.md/search \
  --data-urlencode "q=huberman sleep" \
  -H "x-api-key: pt_demo"

# the search returns episode ids; fetch a transcript with one
curl -H "x-api-key: pt_demo" https://spoken.md/transcripts/1000651996090

The API page has the endpoints, and the how-to shows a whole show being fetched in a loop.

FAQ

Where can I find the transcript of a podcast episode?

Spoken has transcripts for thousands of podcasts: search for the show, the guest or the episode at the top of this page and open the episode. Some shows also post transcripts on their own website, and some podcast apps show one on screen while you listen.

Are podcast transcripts free?

On Spoken, the excerpt on every episode page is free and one full episode is free as a demo. A full transcript costs one credit; credits start at 100 for $15, never expire, and re-reading an episode you already fetched costs nothing.

Does every podcast have a transcript?

Not every podcast has a transcript on Spoken. It has them for shows that publish them, which covers most popular shows in English and several other languages, and misses many small ones. If a search returns the episode, its transcript is available.

Can Spoken transcribe my own podcast or an audio file?

No, Spoken does not transcribe audio you upload. It gives you transcripts of published episodes. For a recording that has not been published, use a speech-to-text tool; this page explains the difference.

Are the speaker names real, or "Speaker 1" and "Speaker 2"?

Spoken's speaker names are real names wherever they can be identified from the episode itself. When a name can't be established, the label stays generic rather than guessing.

Can I get every episode of a show?

Yes, Spoken can list every episode of a show that has a transcript and fetch them one by one. Each show's page gives the count and the price for the whole archive; browse the shows to find yours.
