Gloss Angeles
July 17, 2026
Seven years and nearly 600 episodes later, we’re pulling back the curtain on the stories we’ve never shared—from the interviews that never made it to air to the episodes we deleted (and why).

Hi, Kirby.
Kirbie Johnson (0:07)
Hi, Sarah.
Sara Tan (0:08)
Welcome to Los Angeles.
Kirbie Johnson (0:15)
It's our anniversary. We're a little behind.
Sara Tan (0:18)
I can't believe it. Seven years.
Kirbie Johnson (0:20)
Yes, seven years. Almost 600 episodes.
Sara Tan (0:27)
Every time I drop that fact, everyone's like, shut up, 600 I'm like, yeah, we got a lot to talk about.
Kirbie Johnson (0:34)
Yes, we do.
Sara Tan (0:36)
Clearly.
Kirbie Johnson (0:37)
I'm trying to think. I don't think any other beauty podcasts do too a week.
Sara Tan (0:42)
I don't know a lot of...
Kirbie Johnson (0:43)
That mascara used to.
Sara Tan (0:44)
I don't know a lot of podcasts that do too a week.
Kirbie Johnson (0:46)
Yeah. We just have a lot to say. And we want to feature as many people as we can, right? But there's been so much to reminisce about and recall during our time. I mean, we started in the summer of 2019
Remember, we went to a coffee to meet Amy Liu, who was launching Tower 28 at that time. There were just so many things that were happening and we were like, okay, we're gonna try it. We were recording in Sara's living room. Her husband Matt was our sound engineer.
Sara Tan (1:20)
We were literally putting blankets on the ground. We were trying to finagle the windows.
Kirbie Johnson (1:27)
Patrick was editing.
Sara Tan (1:29)
Yep.
Kirbie Johnson (1:30)
We had one episode a week. We were outlining every single week what was on our face.
Sara Tan (1:38)
Yeah, and it was detailed, long list.
Kirbie Johnson (1:42)
I was going through old scripts of our notes from 2019 and I'm like, oh my God.
Sara Tan (1:48)
Yeah, thank you for listening if you were listening.
Kirbie Johnson (1:51)
Yeah, that was a lot. But we've flown around the world to record the pod, including London with Chanel. We've been to Amsterdam with Bloom FX and Frolicked in the Tulip Fields. We've won several awards including People's Favorite Beauty Podcast. Gloss Angeles Confidential was born giving you our listeners the opportunity to test tons of new products before they launch. And I want to know if you have been a part of this program, because it's what, going on a couple of years now, three or four years?
Sara Tan (2:20)
Yeah.
Kirbie Johnson (2:21)
I want to know what your favorite testing opportunity has been.
Sara Tan (2:25)
We've also, in addition to Traveling the World, have done lots of live events, which have been so fun. Ulta Beauty World. I manifest.
Kirbie Johnson (2:33)
Please bring us back. I think it's in Anaheim. I don't want to be an official spokesperson, but I'm pretty sure it's in Anaheim.
Sara Tan (2:42)
I mean.
Kirbie Johnson (2:42)
It's in our backyard.
Gloss Angeles. And let's do something big. Let's like take a shuttle bus down there with a group of people. I think it would be amazing.
Sara Tan (2:52)
An Ulta-Gloss Angeles branded bus. And then we get to do Disneyland.
Kirbie Johnson (2:57)
Oh my God. If we took a group of people to Disney, that would be fun.
Sara Tan (3:01)
I saw a brand recently do a trip that was, it was like fashion, not so much beauty, but I'm like, let's make it happen.
Kirbie Johnson (3:09)
Yes.
Sara Tan (3:09)
Why not us?
Kirbie Johnson (3:10)
Why not? That's the way. That's the Mindy Kaling way. Why not me? Why not us?
Obviously, BeautyCon, we've done BeautyCon. I mean, Sara and I have both done BeautyCon with our respective careers, but we interviewed Lily Reinhardt at BeautyCon, which was a really fun app because we adore her. We did a live episode with Gwen Stefani when she launched her mascara, RIP Give Beauty.
Sara Tan (3:33)
That was so fun.
Kirbie Johnson (3:34)
It was so fun and it was great to have people there in real life that listened to the podcast and got to go home with that new product.
Sara Tan (3:41)
But yeah, hopefully more more of that to come.
Kirbie Johnson (3:44)
Many fun things over the past seven years. So with seven years of Gloss Angeles, instead of doing a recap episode of like, here's all the stuff we've done, which I think it was nice that we did talk about what we have done. But I want to break down some of the stuff that I think is juicy, that I think people actually want to know.
Sara Tan (4:05)
Yes. The BTS of running a podcast for seven years.
Kirbie Johnson (4:11)
Yes. So there are some episodes that we have fully recorded and funded that never saw the light of day.
