Hey everybody, it is Thursday, July 16th. You're listening to the Monews podcast. I'm Moshe Oinounou.
**Jill Wagner** (2:06)
And I am Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts.
**Mosheh Oinounou** (2:10)
And where we read all the news and read between the lines. So you do not have to. As we get started here today, a couple things we have been tracking. The World Cup final is now set for this Sunday.
**Jill Wagner** (2:22)
That's right. Argentina beat England 2-1 in the semifinals on Wednesday, setting up an Argentina-Spain finals. But Moshe, what a game on Wednesday.
**Mosheh Oinounou** (2:33)
Incredible game. Another disappointing World Cup for English fans. They have not won since the 1950s, had high hopes this year. And they were leading pretty late into the match. And that's when Argentina turned it on.
Lionel Messi assisting with a couple of goals there. They got two goals in the last few minutes of the match. So now Argentina will attempt to win for the second World Cup in a row. They won back in 2022 And they face Spain. Spain has only won once ever. So they're going for their second ever championship. And right now it appears, based on the numbers over on the culture prediction market, as we record this just a couple of hours after the match, that the traders currently believe that Spain has the advantage. So right now Spain is leading in the culture trading numbers, but we'll see how the next few days go.
And Argentina, as we watched against England and other previous matches, keeps figuring out a way to pull a rabbit out of a hat.

And Mosheh, quick follow up to the push to make daylight saving time permanent. It appears that at least as of this recording, there is not a clear path for that bill to pass the Senate.
**Mosheh Oinounou** (3:45)
Right, so it passed the US. House by a pretty overwhelming margin, but like many things coming out of the House, the Senate likes to slow things down and deliberate. And there are a number of senators, Republican and Democrat, who are in favor and a number of senators, Republican and Democrat, who are opposed to the measure. So the split is less about party and more about geography. You have a lot of senators from northern states that are particularly worried about how permanent daylight saving could create 9 a.m., 9:30 a.m. sunrises where they're from.
That includes the Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who is from South Dakota. At the same time, though, you have a leading Democrat, Patty Murray, from Washington state, another northern state, who has spearheaded this and loves this idea. So we'll see what happens here. But like many things, it has to go through committee. There are a number of senators in the past who have voted against this in committee. Again, both parties here.
