Coming up today on Mini Scroll, we're breaking down the TikTok perm controversy going completely viral, social media has a new fastest growing creator, and CatSci's new music video is facing scrutiny.

Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the Australian youth digital media brand, Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone, and thank you so much to our sponsor for today's episode, Jurlique. Running a business often means literally running from place to place. Between late night events and early morning podcast recordings, I'm trying to give myself a little extra TLC this winter, especially for my skin. For that, I've been loving Jurlique's Holy Basil and Aloe Hydrating Mist. The hydrating mist is formulated with farm grown Holy Basil and Aloe Vera, which is handpicked on Jurlique's Biodynamic Farm in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. It contains 100% natural origin ingredients and fragrance and delivers clinically proven 24-hour hydration and stress resilience, something we all know that I need as a founder.

To make sure my skin stays feeling and looking fresh, I've been keeping the mist in my bag and using it on the go. I've been loving a quick spritz post-workout or to get me through the 3 PM slump. The Holy Basil and Aloe Hydrating Mist is made for every skin type and has multifunctional benefits. It's not just a refresh, it's a skincare treatment that you can take anywhere. If you want to learn more about the Holy Basil and Aloe Hydrating Mist, head to jurlique.com.au. All right. Hi, everyone. Welcome back.

I have quite a big first story for you guys. Before I get into it, please remember to rate, review and subscribe. It helps us so much. It helps us grow. It helps us keep going and get sponsors. Please Spotify star rate us, leave us an Apple review, buy us a coffee. If you want to support us tangibly like that and also subscribe to us on YouTube. All right. Let's get into the first story. I have avoided this story for the last week and I fear it is no longer avoidable. And there are many parts to it. So I'm going to do a full explainer into what people are calling perm gate. Annabel said to me today, when are we going to stop adding gate at the end of like online controversies? And honestly, I have no idea, but everyone's calling it perm gate. But essentially, a woman named Milly is going viral after getting a perm gone wrong. So Milly, who goes by Milly Is Moody Online, uploaded a video last week explaining that she went to Vanity Salon and Color Bar in Garner, North Carolina to get a perm. Before the appointment, she had reportedly been growing her hair out for five years and had been using black box dye because she couldn't afford to have it professionally done. So she said she had been saving up for a really long time to get this perm, and it was something she really wanted. She's a musical artist, so she wanted to have really voluminous, curly hair for her shows.

Milly Is Moody (2:59)

So I am shaking, I'm sorry.

I understand this is maybe too much for hair, but got my hair done at this stupid fucking salon called Vanity Salon and Color Bar in Garner, North Carolina. I got my hair done by Ashlyn, and I have waited six years to get my hair done professionally again. I work a minimum wage job, so I work really hard to save my money, and I've just been box dyeing it with black box dye until I was able to go and get a perm. I've really wanted a perm for a really long time.

I came in to get one, when we sat down, we did a curl test. She immediately did a curl test on the back of my hair back here. She put the product on, and then she asked me, have you had any bleach in your hair? No, not in over 10 years. Have you had any type of henna? No, never henna. I know henna won't come out, so I never touch henna. Have you box dyed it? Yes, I did box dye it a couple months ago. This is the box dye I used. She looked up the ingredients on the box dye to make sure that none of them would have any interference with the perm that she was about to put on my head. Then she put the perm on my head.
