Coming up today on Mini Scroll, Pete Davidson comes for the Get Ready With Me Girlies, TheatreTok debates Dan Culture amid viral Gillian Anderson video, and of course, my opinion on Taylor Swift's Encore. Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily internet culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, founder of the Australian youth digital media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone. Welcome back after our week off. I actually had a pretty good week. I mean, despite the horrors of everything going on in the world, I had a pretty good week. I feel like I accomplished what I mean to accomplish on these weeks off, which is like resting and actually recovering a bit. Honestly, I had a pretty good week. I feel like my mental health was quite good. I did have a crazy beginning of the week. So on the Monday, I was on a panel in Brisbane for this big investor conference, and I didn't realize when I said, yeah, I'll fly in and out on the day, that's totally fine.
That meant that we would have to be on the 6 AM flight. So I literally was up at 3 AM Monday morning. You guys know as an insomnia girlie, I didn't sleep that entire night because I was just like, I can't believe I have to wake up at 3 AM to do my glam, to get on the flight because as soon as we landed from the flight, we went to a breakfast and then we went to the conference and then we did our panel and it was so full on. It was like such a whirlwind but it was such a good experience and then literally after that Monday, I crashed and I actually did sleep really well all week. But truly, what a week to have off. So much happened last week in Internet Culture News. In today's episode, I didn't include the COVID conscious lesbian bar story and discourse. I can cover it to more if you guys want. I didn't because first of all, I feel like the story at this point is already an entire week old. It happened at the beginning of last week. But also, I'm not sure if I'm totally the right person to be covering that story. I can cover it, like I said, if you guys want. So leave some comments, let me know. But I wanted to bring that to you guys before covering it. Okay, before I get into it, I have a couple of updates for you guys. I didn't feel it was right for me to come back amid everything that we're learning about the Cornell University gang rape and not address it and not give my perspective on where I feel like I can add value.
I've been thinking a lot about where I can add value. This is a trigger warning. I'm going to be talking about how we engage with men who are acting in bad faith online, but I'm not going to be talking about the actual story itself and covering details of the story. But I will put timestamps in the description down below regardless, of course. I've been thinking a lot about how I want to address this where I can add the most value.
And what I think I want to get across in this, as somebody who obviously reports on internet culture, reports on discourse and its consequences, and has also covered the Manosphere many times and reaped some consequences myself from that, is I have seen over the past week so many amazing women in the comment sections, in stitches, in videos, essentially going to bat against men who are taking Jane Doe's account of things in bad faith, who are defending the rapists and who are pretending like they don't know that gang rape is so bad. And I just want to very gently caution all of us women who are in the comment sections and in the stitches and making videos trying to quote unquote educate these men or fire back at these men, because first of all, we cannot educate these men. These men know that gang rape is bad. Them pretending that they don't is them being intentionally obtuse and acting in bad faith intentionally. So first of all, we cannot be using our energy and our emotional vulnerability and our anger and everything that we're feeling like we cannot be using all of that to try and educate men who don't want to be educated. They just want to hate us. Like they will hate us no matter what. If they are in the comment sections defending men like that. But second, I feel there's another layer to this, which is if we as women comment something back to them or make a video in response to them and it triggers them just a little bit too much, that can also put us in a lot of danger.
