You're listening to Comedy Central.
From the most trusted journalists at Comedy Central, it's America's only source for news. This is The Daily Show with your host, Jon Stewart.
Jon Stewart (1:37)
We got a great show here. Later on tonight, Hollywood Superagent Ari Emanuel will be on the show talking about his new biography. That's right. There you go. Just so you know, Ari is actually the real life inspiration for the beloved HBO entourage character, Carrie Bradshaw.
That's probably not right. But first, as many of you have heard if you've been following the news, the hottest spot in DC has just changed their door policy.
SPEAKER_7 (2:17)
Over the weekend, journalists from CNN, MS Now and Politico were all denied access to the White House and their passes revoked.
SPEAKER_8 (2:24)
It's sick.
SPEAKER_6 (2:25)
I mean, there's something wrong with a country that can allow people to write purposely negative things.
Jon Stewart (2:45)
Have you tried presidenting better?
SPEAKER_9 (2:49)
Have you tried?
Jon Stewart (2:50)
You could.
You could ban the press, or you could be a better f**king president. I mean, give the press something to work with. Oh, here's a positive story. I never thought my car could take $140 worth of gas in such a small tank. I had no idea. Hurrah. And not for nothing, have we ever had a president just flat out in the Oval Office come out against the Constitution? What kind of a sick country doesn't allow unlimited warrantless search and seizure? I mean, that's not the North Korea I grew up in.
I'm sure it was just a poor choice of words from the president. He didn't mean to say that, how can a country have a free press? I'm sure there's a very thorough and thought out legal framework and rationale for why this is not a free press ban.
SPEAKER_10 (4:01)
Mr. President, on the ban, what does that mean in practice?
SPEAKER_6 (4:05)
Oh, the ban on the free press, right?
Jon Stewart (4:15)
Are you talking about my authoritarian crackdown? Is that what you think? Is that the ban you're referring to? He gives no f***s. He gives no f***s. He doesn't even respect us enough to pretend he's bound by our constitution. Are you talking about the press ban? My press ban? Yeah, no, we're doing the press ban. The truth is, I'd like to kill you.
Or send you all to camps, you know. But I still got two more years.
Well, I hope you realize what you've done, Mr. President. Because as a result of this ban, not only have you betrayed your sacred oath of office, you've now subjected all of us to endless reporter building entrance logistics stories. You bastard.
SPEAKER_8 (5:07)
I attempted to scan my badge, which we have to do, and able to get into the White House grounds. It did not work.
SPEAKER_11 (5:14)
I asked if I could have the badge back. He said he would be keeping it. He did, however, hand me back this clear case with a lanyard. Normally when we talk, I am there on the White House grounds.
SPEAKER_12 (5:24)
I wish we had a better camera position to at least offer you.
SPEAKER_13 (5:27)
This is not just about the smell of the grass on the White House lawn.
Jon Stewart (5:39)
Now unfortunately, we here at Comedy Central are also caught up in this ban. Even though we have been more than fair to this president, almost too fair. So, for more on the ban, we go live to the sidewalk outside of the White House with our senior White House correspondent, Desi Lydic. Desi, what's?
Desi, I thought you were going to be outside. That looks like the Oval Office. Desi, are you? Where are you?
Desi Lydic (6:15)
Psst, I'm here, Jon.
Jon Stewart (6:19)
Desi, are you? Are you in the Oval Office? Where?
How did you get in? Where are you, Desi?
Desi Lydic (6:24)
