Hey, welcome. Good morning to the TMZ Podcast. How you doing? I'm Branson Quirk.
Tony Smith (1:03)
And I'm Tony Smith. Happy Monday, Branson.
Branson Quirk (1:06)
Happy Monday. I mean, this is not shocking. Donald Trump has finally done it. I'm actually shocked he didn't do this earlier.
Tony Smith (1:15)
Quite infuriating, to be honest with you. I'm at my wits end. I'm pretty pissed off.
Branson Quirk (1:21)
I mean, yeah, I don't believe anyone should be banned from the media room in the White House. I mean, they're a news outlet, but you all saw this. So Donald Trump announced that he is banning several outlets from the media room, including CNN, MS Now, which is formerly known as MSNBC, and Politico.
They've been banned from the media room. So when you see those conferences and everything at the White House, they will not be in that room anymore. So Donald Trump made a post on Truth Social. We have it for you now. We're showing it. Saying, I am proud to announce that effective immediately, I am banning fake news, CNN, MS Now.
He put in parentheses, who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility. End of that. And Politico, the recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 million subscription, an all-time record directly from the United States government under crooked Joe Biden in order to keep them quote, alive. Seems like corruption to me. From the White House as a result of their constant quote, reporting fake news. Media outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report fiction and lies when they're covering the president of the United States, the Trump administration or the United States of America. Other fake news media outlets to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter. President Donald J. Trump.
Tony Smith (2:52)
So yeah, he was asked about this. We have a clip we're going to play right now.
SPEAKER_6 (2:58)
Mr. President, earlier today, you posted that you intend to ban CNN, Politico and MSNOW from the White House. Every president takes an oath to uphold the Constitution, which includes the First Amendment.
Donald Trump (3:11)
I do too. Much more so. Much more so than you.
Because they're fake news. You get so tired of reading and seeing fake news.
When you look at CNN, it's just fake. That's why their ratings are no good. When you look at MSNOW, which used to be MSNBC, which some people call MSDNC, Democratic National Committee, it's fake news. It's fake news. And, excuse me, excuse me. And when you look at political, I mean, they got a government, the government under Biden gave them like $8 million to keep them afloat. And the stories, they wrote are fake. So there's a lot of news, and there may be others to join them, and maybe they can get better and would like to have men. But our country has to have honest news.
Tony Smith (4:01)
So a couple more details on this. So we're finding out new details about Natalie Harp's potential involvement in this whole media ban thing. So according to a Wall Street Journal report, Natalie Harp reportedly showed President Trump clips of television hosts criticizing him and his administration. Harp allegedly showed Trump negative coverage from CNN, MSNOW, and Politico. She reportedly focused on TV anchors criticizing the administration during their broadcast. Trump reportedly made the final decision after watching an unfavorable MSNOW report on Friday.
So Branson, let me get your thoughts on this.
Branson Quirk (4:39)
Well, I mean, I'm not shocked by it. I mean, I'm shocked that he actually did it.
I always thought maybe he would like maybe try to do this. I didn't know that it was that easy, though. Isn't there some type of legal replication for this?
Tony Smith (4:57)
Yeah, it's against the Constitution. Sorry for my audio listener. Like, this is literally...
