Hey, everybody, it is Friday, September 25th. You're listening to the Mo News podcast. I'm Moshe Oinounou.
Jill Wagner (0:09)
And I am Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts.
Mosheh Oinounou (0:13)
And where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to on this inaugural live streamed edition of the podcast for all of you watching or listening. On Friday, you actually have the chance to watch this live at 5 p.m. Eastern on Thursday as we look to grow our YouTube channel and are experimenting with some of our platforms.
Jill Wagner (0:33)
That's right. So you might be listening to this per usual on your commute to work or on a walk Friday morning.
But as Mosheh said, we're also going live. And you could get a sneak peek of this on Thursday. The only difference besides YouTubers watching Friday's podcast on Thursday is that our editor, Arian, will eventually take the YouTube recording and just smooth it out a little bit for a nice final version that will eventually be published. Mosheh will be published, I think, 430 AM on Monday through Friday.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:05)
Monday through Friday. And then we got the weekend interview typically that comes out. We have the Ask Mo Anything premium podcast that comes out. We're doing like seven pods a week these days. I will say we need some smoothing. We might have some talking over pauses or mispronunciations.
And now we're doing it live for all of you. So, you know, we look to be held accountable by our team internally. And now all of you, at least on Thursdays. And if you like this, we might do it some more days out of the week, Jill.
Jill Wagner (1:31)
Yeah, let us know what you think. We appreciate all feedback. Good, bad and ugly.
OK, now to the headlines. A superpower summit at the White House. Lots of pomp, Mosheh, as President Trump hosted his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:46)
Yeah, hours of talks, a state dinner on Thursday night.
Some more meetings on Friday before Xi Jinping heads back to China, AI, Taiwan, Iran. A lot on the agenda. And Jill, we're getting some pandas. We'll explain.
Jill Wagner (2:03)
Panda diplomacy is back. That summit, by the way, not getting as much TV coverage as it would normally after the White House banned CNN, MS Now and Politico.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:14)
Right. Remember that ban last week, then a major ruling overnight into Thursday morning. An initial White House either confusion or refusal to abide by that ruling. And then eventually by about lunchtime, they let the reporters back in.
Jill Wagner (2:29)
To the UN General Assembly, Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu addressed world leaders, many of whom walked out.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:36)
It's a tradition like no other at the UN. A walkout. This was the largest of the walkouts. Seventy plus country delegations walking out in the Israeli prime minister.
What their goal was and what he had to say about it.
Jill Wagner (2:48)
AI, a big topic at the UN this week. And another example of AI agents going rogue. Australia's prime minister said that OpenAI's agents breached Australian government data, the first known AI hack of a government website.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:03)
Yeah, we'll explain why this hack was different than some of the other AI hacks, the many that we've been telling you about in recent weeks.
Jill Wagner (3:09)
In economic news, mortgage rates just hit 7%.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:13)
Yeah, we actually got to dip below 6% in the last year. Now we're back above 7%. We'll tell you why and its potential impact here on the housing market.
Jill Wagner (3:21)
And a new generational debate, millennials unhappy with their boomer parents who are posting AI-enhanced photos of their grandkids online.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:30)
It makes the boomers feel like, you know, really tech savvy, Jill, but the kids and the grandkids not so into it, given what they know about privacy these days.
Jill Wagner (3:39)
And a really fascinating conversation happening online right now. Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Nikole Hannah-Jones, she wrote a personal essay about her decision to send her daughter to a mostly low-income public school, even though she could afford to send her to a different one.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:54)
Yeah, she's being accused of conducting a social experiment as she found out the school was subpar, took her daughter out of that school, what her daughter is saying and what various folks who read that essay are saying about it.
Jill Wagner (4:05)
And it is Friday, cheers to the freaking weekend, what we are watching, reading and eating.
