Get some more on this in a moment. First, if you own a small business, hats off to you, because not only are you providing jobs for your community, you've bootstrapped your way to success despite insane taxes and crazy regulations and all the other things that get thrown at you. I choose to endorse PureTalk because they understand that. They started as a small business that's scrappiness and value for hard work and helping their neighbor continue to drive them forward. It's why their customer service team is right here in the United States. It's also why they want to give other small businesses, the HVAC companies, roofers, landscapers, the best wireless service at the lowest price possible. So if you own a business, if you want to save on wireless, if you want excellent customer service, because goodness knows that's hard to get nowadays, switch your team to PureTalk for as little as $15 a line of talk, text and data. Head on over to puretalkbusiness.com/shapiro, see how much PureTalk could save your business, plus get 50% off your very first month of coverage. 23 days to election day and the president has been burning up the map. It's all part of his 32-day campaign blitz holding rallies across the country.
Trump wants it to be a boost, but is it? In Michigan, Republican Mike Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed met for their first debate. A big test for El-Sayed. How did he do? Then there's Alaska. Trump won it by 13 points two years ago, but now Democrat Mary Paltola is in a tight Senate race with Republican Dan Sullivan. I just returned from covering the latest of the state of play there. We'll discuss.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio's speech in Athens, what he said and what that may say about the future. Twenty-three days and plenty to get to. This is the District Club.
Ben Domenech (2:45)
Welcome to the District Club. I'm Ben Domenech, happy to be joined, as always, by my colleagues, Tim Rice and Mary Margaret Ollahan. And welcoming to the stage today, Michael Starr Hopkins, the author of Burn the Playbook. Thank you so much for taking the time to join us. Thanks for having me. We have a ton of things to talk about, and I think that we should start with the attention that the president and his political organization paid this week to the midterms. We've been talking about this sort of in the lead up. We anticipated the president would go out and start barnstorming, that he would start having his political operation, spend money, and there are a lot of different things that follow on from that, namely the question of how much is this actually going to move the needle?
I am curious as to your view on how much it moved the needle, but I think I have to start with you, Michael, on this one question that has taken over in the last 48, 72 hours thanks to the president's comments and to Ken Paxton's comments in the San Antonio rally.
Where is James Talarico? I didn't even know this was a thing. I will confess, I have a higher sort of quantity of sources in Texas, and quite a high number of them have said, they've given various reasons that he is gone, but the one thing that they have said pretty consistently is, very few people here in Texas believe this is just the flu, which is what the campaign has said, and they've said that he's going to be coming back soon. What is your view of this? Where in the world is James Talarico?
