Hi gang, today is Wednesday. It's the 24th of June, 2026 Yesterday, healthy vote. It's so funny. The simplistic question about which, you know, we all feel a little skin in the game because we get it. It's not highfalutin. They get the most votes. Thirty four thousand five hundred and twenty voted yesterday. Algae at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Act of God, construction or vandalism? Seventy five point eight nine percent said construction. Nineteen point seven nine percent said Act of God. Four point three three percent said vandalism. I have been friendly with my buddy Mike Stockle Jr. for all of my sixty-four years. I don't know, damn near. He's younger than I am. So let's say sixty. Mike's a pool guy. His dad was a pool guy. I worked for his father. He worked for his father and now he runs the business with his sister, Kelly, who's also a friend of mine, lifelong friend. Anyway, Mike called me for a check-in yesterday and to offer me his thoughts on the reflecting pool. As he puts it, I'm a pool guy. I know. And what was his bottom line? That guy, as in the contractor, he effed up. I'm like, Mike, they should have had you come in instead of that guy.
I'm writing a note as I'm addressing you and delivering this commentary. I'll go back to writing my note for the newsletter today. It's not about today's poll question. I was going to write about today's poll question, but I thought, I got to weigh in on the Zeran Mamdani wave and what happened in New York last night, because he went three for three on his congressional endorsements. I mean, pretty amazing, but there's a caveat. And the caveat is that while Mamdani was able to elect very progressive, some would say Democratic socialists in three races, including unseating Dan Goldman, the two-term incumbent, which is really incredible.
While he was able to have that success, if you go, I don't know, 30 miles north to a swing district in the Hudson Valley, the 17th district, Democrats there picked the more pragmatic, more moderate choice, reminiscent of what we just saw in Virginia and in New Jersey. They picked Kate Condley, an Army veteran and former counter-terrorism official, to challenge Mike Lawler. So same party, same night, opposite instincts, purity in the safe seats, electability in the seats that they've got to win.
And I think it shows where the passion lies. It also shows there's some pragmatism. But what I'm wrestling with, and I'll get into this on today's radio program, is who woke up happy among the 2028 Democratic Likelies? If you look at Mark Halpern's list, his, you know, eight list, it runs Newsom, Shapiro, Harris, Buttigieg, Sanders, Ossoff, Pritzker and Emanuel.
Which of them is pleased with the outcome of last night? Well, Bernie Sanders, sure, but he's 84 years old. It can't be Bernie.
It's complicated, and the only certainty, and I'm going to say this in the, in my note in the newsletter today, the only certainty is that the GOP is going to draw great fodder from casting the entire party as Democratic socialists. It's an age-old line of attack, but this time it's actually true, at least with regard for some of them. My poll question today at smerconish.com asks, Nancy Guthrie, will it ever be solved?
Will it ever be solved? I pray that it will be.
