I learned at a young age, you can't buy your health. So I began this health journey when I was about 27 years old. For 10 years, I tried everything, and I was 20 pounds dehydrated. Now the dilemma became, how do you actually get that hydration inside the cells? And so I basically created a protocol for myself to follow steady, healthy habits that we teach in this protocol. And I just live it as an example.

My podcast guest today is kind of a crazy guy, John Jubilee. He has a chest press world record of five hundred and fifty five pounds for 14 reps. He had bone on bone in his knees and figured out how to basically regrow his cartilage using the tactics that we talk about on today's show. And he is kind of an expert on what he calls intracellular hydration. This one's interesting. All the show notes are going to be at bengreenfieldlife.com/jubilee, J-U-B-I-L-E-E.
Let's go talk with John. John, you actually, I think, were introduced to me by a guy whose podcasts I've done a couple of times down in Vegas. His name is Sean Kelly. And he's like, dude, you got to share this guy, John. He's got a great story and some really, really interesting and novel thoughts, particularly around the concept of cellular hydration. And I'm like, okay, great, you know, just give me another guy talking about drinking water and electrolytes. And I kind of stalked you a little bit and listened to some other interviews that you've done and checked out your website. You have a pretty unique approach, man. So I'm stoked to get into it. Yeah.
John Jubilee (2:07)
Well, it was game changer for me, that's for sure. But more importantly, you know, at this point in time, you know, I think, I think we're, you know, in the tens of thousands, 50, 60, 70,000, you know, you know, people's lives that we've been able to impact with this breakthrough science. And interestingly, yeah, everybody's drinking more water, right? They're doing, they're doing that, you know, and as a scientist, I always ask people a question, how's that working for you? It's not really working for people. You know, they could drink all the water they want, but, you know, I like to keep things simple for people, Ben, and I say, you know, look at your cells, you know, your cells basically are as hard as a glass marble. You know, once you get past about 35 years old, oxidative stress and just the cellular transformation that happens in the cell, it gets hard like a glass marble. And so all that water is really just bouncing off.
Those supplements are bouncing off. I call that expensive pee.
It's like it's just not getting in there.
Ben Greenfield (3:10)
Get into that a little bit for me. Like the link between age and this glass marble effect that you described. Like I don't know if you mean that like literally, if you could enlarge a cell and like tap it with a hammer, if it literally would be like harder or if you're just using like a metaphor. But I'd love to hear your description of like this link between age and cellular hydration and this so-called glass marble effect.
John Jubilee (3:34)
Yeah, well, and really, unfortunately, because of all the seed oils and the 5, 10, 20, 30 ingredients, they put in every type of food now. All of those are also like hardeners to a cell. A cell has two membranes around it. And so, it's already tough enough because it's being protected by two membranes. But then when you start putting all of these artificial ingredients, man-made things in there, basically, it's no different than when they put a hardener in paint, they put a hardener in glue, all these things. It's basically the same thing as happening to our cells.
So yes, they really are just like a marble. So your supplements hit it, your water hits it, it's just bouncing off of that thing.
Ben Greenfield (4:29)
So you mean like kind of the concept that something like a rancid, let's say heavily fried oil might be the actual fatty acid that is used to comprise something like the cell membrane. And in that case, you have either a dysfunctional or a porous cell membrane that doesn't function properly in terms of like nutrients and minerals going in and out of the cell?
