Third near miss at Sydney airport + Tupac's "thug life" on trial

Welcome to The Briefing. I'm Dan Mullins, acting head of Factual here at Lysner. Sacha and Chris are both ill. The trial of the man accused of murdering Tupac is getting underway in Las Vegas. So does that mean Rapp's greatest mystery is finally solved?

Police arrive on bicycles and they try to get Tupac out. Then they take him away in an ambulance. But Tupac's last words were to the police officer, f**k you, when the police officer asked him who did it. Like he kept saying, who did this? Who did this?

Morning, I'm Michaela Savage. Safety authorities are looking into yet another near miss. It's Sydney Airport. It's the third incident in recent weeks. It happened on Sunday with a Virgin plane headed for Perth forced to abort takeoff because a Qantas flight destined for Ayers Rock Airport was crossing the runway at the same time.
Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat are fronting an inquiry into Australia's under 16 social media ban today. It comes after Meta says it's shut down 750,000 accounts since the ban came into effect in December.
Penny Wong is expected to speak about the dangers of monoculturalism in a talk today and how it risks making Australia lonely in a dangerous world. The Foreign Minister's speech comes as One Nation continues to hold popularity in the polls with Labour struggling and News Corp's reporting the deaths of more than 60 Australians are suspected to be linked to popular weight loss drugs including ones sold under the brand names Ozempic and Mount Jaro. The Roosters have one hand on the minor premier ship after a 12 to 16 win over the Panthers at Combank Stadium. They now sit at the top of the table, two points clear of Penrith. Chooks coach Trent Robinson full of praise for Cody Ramsey.

His death shocked the world and became one of the enduring pop culture mysteries of our time. And for all these decades, the questions remained, who killed Tupac? But in 2023, it seemed the mystery was seemingly solved when 60-year-old former gang boss Duane Keffe D. Davis was charged in relation to his murder.
But he's not believed to be the one who pulled the trigger. And now his trial is about to begin, marking the first criminal prosecution in Tupac's killing. So what do we know about the night of his shooting back in 1996? How did Davis come to be on trial? And why are we only now seeing this play out in a courtroom all these years later? Michael Namikas is a hip hop historian and the author of The Tupac Encyclopedia, Volume 1, with a second in the works right now.
Michael, welcome to The Briefing. Tupac's been called everything from a poet to a prophet to the greatest rapper who ever lived. Can you talk us through his legacy and what made him the giant that he was?

There's a lot of different elements of Tupac's legacy and the things that made him so memorable to people for the past 30 plus years. His music first and foremost, his look, style, charisma, the aura that he had as a person, the life story which is reflected in the music that he created. His life was very interesting from his family background, the Black Panthers, his mother, all the way to the different trials and tribulations that he had throughout his life, throughout his music career and then ultimately his death. Then there's his acting career and the different films that he made.
Also, there's just the different interviews that he gave and the statements that he made publicly that people really hold on to and still speak to people today.
