Gerard Gibert (1:02)
Good morning, everyone. And welcome to MidDays. SuperTalk Mississippi. I'm your host, Gerard Gibert, along with Will East. In for the vacationing, Rhino. We are in the Element Wealth Studio. We'll be guiding you through the middle of your day with facts, fodder, and fine music on, as Rhino would say, rather gleefully, Friday, y'all. We have made it, Will. We've got through the week. It's been a good one. Enjoy you being with us this week. Appreciate you covering for Rhino in his absence.
A lot of stuff going on. Traveled up to New Albany, of course, on Wednesday. I don't know if I told you, but it was chilly up there, man. When I got out, Alex Payton, our content director, of course, along with Houston McDavid, our engineer, Alex was in a coat, a jacket, and Scary Gary had one on too, as a matter of fact.
Will East (2:00)
I walked outside this morning, and I was like, whoa.
Gerard Gibert (2:03)
That was pretty cool, literally. So, you know, I have to point this out. You're aware, you've been here a long time. I'm still kind of the new person. Although, you know, I've been doing this six years. It's hard to believe it's been six years. Actually started part-time in 2020, right when the COVID craziness broke out.
And that's, of course, when the great JT Williamson was ill and unable to continue his duties with excellence in this chair. But when you travel around the state, you get more of a sense of how powerful this network is and how large the audience is for this network. You can't tell that sitting in the studio. You know what I'm saying? You sit behind this mic at this desk.
Will East (2:53)
Because there's no, like, studio audience, right?
Gerard Gibert (2:56)
But when you travel about, and so I'm at downtown New Albany on the Tanglefoot Trail. And by the way, for I think the first hour, I called it the Tallahatchie Trail. It's the Tallahatchie River Festival, the Tanglefoot Trail. Somebody on the text line was kind enough to correct me. That's my bad, honestly. I just conflated the two. But where we were positioned right there, downtown, Main Street, which is quite busy for a small town. Yeah. It's impressive. It really is. I can't tell you the number of people that drove by and they'd roll their window down. Hey, Gerard!
It's pretty cool, honestly. And we are extremely appreciative of that. We understand that none of this is possible without our fabulous audience. And we take it seriously, coming in every day and trying to inform you a bit and maybe mix in some entertainment and some great music as well. That's why we call it facts, fodder, and fine music.
Will East (4:01)
I see you got your SuperTramp shirt on there.
Gerard Gibert (4:04)
You know I'm a big Journey fan, but I'm as well stuck in the 70s and 80s and that musical genre. Today, I got my SuperTramp. So you're going to have to honor us with some SuperTramp tunes.
Breakfast in America, I remember when that was released.
Will East (4:20)
Oh yeah.
Gerard Gibert (4:21)
77, 78, something like that.
Will East (4:23)
One of my favorite phrases that I use occasionally is somebody will ask me, you know, why are you so late?
You know, or you're a few minutes late, or everybody else is already here, if I'm ever running late. And I always respond, I did a SuperTramp. I took the long way home.
Gerard Gibert (4:46)
I got you. I love it. What a great tune that is. You'll have to crank that one up for us. Okay. I haven't heard that. Oh, wow. So we're all buckled up and ready to go. We got Griffin Ray. That is our custom every Friday to bring in someone from the SuperTalk Mississippi News Department. Griffin, a multimedia journalist. He'll run down all the news stories the news department has been tracking. JT. Mitchell, our news director, is still out enjoying his new baby at home. So congratulations to him. Patrick Sullivan, president of the Mississippi Energy Institute in the Element Wealth Studio at 1205 today. Yesterday, we kind of consumed much of the show. We'll talk about the price of energy, price of diesel, price of gas, which is top of everyone's mind. And it is, like it or not, a factor as we head into the midterms. It is a factor that is top of mind. So there's a tendency, I think, that people have, and certainly in politics, everybody wants to point to the past.
