Strategy's Bitcoin bet racks up a $13 billion loss on paper, and BlackBerry is back with AI moves. This is CoinDesk Daily.
Strategy is sitting on one of the largest unrealized losses in corporate history of $13 billion.
The company fought at an average price of near $75,600. As of this morning, BTC is trading below $60,000.
Its preferred stock, STRC, has also slid to $75, a 25% discount from its $100 par value. Strategy still has about 10 months of dollar reserves to cover its STRC dividend obligations, but confidence may become a problem if the price of Bitcoin doesn't bounce back. Binance is suspending services for users in the EU after failing to secure a Mika license before the July 1st deadline. The world's largest exchange emailed customers in France, Italy, Poland and Spain, telling them it can no longer accept new registrations and will restrict services. Binance withdrew its license application in Greece this week and now plans to seek authorization in France instead. It says user assets remain safe and accessible at all times. And BlackBerry is making a comeback as a software layer for AI and robotics. The firm's QNX software acts as the operating system for autonomous machines, and it's being used by chipmakers like Nvidia and AMD to build self-driving cars and warehouse robots.
