Shawn Ryan Show: Cardinal Burke on the Resurrection, Eucharist, and New Testament

When the Resurrection stands at the center, everything else falls into place. In this episode of Shawn Ryan Show, Shawn Ryan sits down with Cardinal Burke for a second day of conversation, and it's fascinating how Burke moves through the New Testament as a unified witness to Jesus Christ. Right, and what strikes me is how the discussion keeps returning to one conviction: the risen Christ is the key to history, doctrine, and hope. Burke begins with the Resurrection itself, pointing to the four Gospels, the empty tomb, and the transformed witness of the apostles. And he highlights St. Paul's conversion on the road to Damascus as one of the strongest signs of the risen Lord. Paul hears the words, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" and goes from persecutor to apostle. Burke calls this an extraordinary testimony to Christ. Building on that foundation, Burke lays out the New Testament as 27 books, beginning with the Gospels and moving through Acts, the epistles, and Revelation. What's interesting is how he explains that the four Gospels aren't contradictions, but complementary accounts. Exactly. He notes that St. John offers a more theological vision and had a special closeness to the Blessed Mother. The whole New Testament, he says, points back to the same center: Jesus, who fulfills the promises of the Old Covenant.
The Passion and death of Christ receive deep attention too. Burke recalls Jesus praying in Gethsemane, standing before Pilate, carrying the cross, and speaking from the Psalms, including "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" That's a powerful moment. Burke says this expresses the depth of Christ's human suffering, not a break with the Father, and he closes that arc with the final words, "It is consummated." Then the Last Supper becomes another centerpiece of the discussion. Right. Burke explains that Jesus instituted the Eucharist and the priesthood when He said, "This is my body which will be given up for you" and "Do this in memory of me."
For Burke, this isn't symbolic language. It's Christ giving His real presence to the Church, along with the sacramental life that continues through baptism, confession, the anointing of the sick, and the Mass. Mary also receives deep attention in this conversation. Burke describes her as the Mother of God, the New Eve, and the model of all mothers.
He points to her words at Cana, "Do whatever He tells you," as a lifelong directive for Christians. And he connects her to the Church's life of prayer, especially through the Rosary and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which he describes as a sign of her closeness and maternal care.
The conversation then shifts to judgment, heaven, purgatory, and spiritual warfare.
Burke says the soul is judged at death, the just may be purified, and the faithful can help the dead through prayer. He warns that demons are real and can only be opposed in Christ, while the Rosary, St. Michael, St. Joseph, and the sacraments give believers strength. In the end, Burke returns to a simple but demanding message. The New Testament is an invitation to faith, reverence, and readiness. Christians shouldn't obsess over the timing of the end, but live prepared, trusting that Christ, who conquered death, will one day restore all things to the Father.
