Hey there, Ayesha Mehta and Karan Rao here.

Karan Rao (0:03)

Really great to have you with us for this Deep Dive.

Ayesha Mehta (0:05)

So today is Tuesday, September 29th, 2026

And if you're wondering what our mission is today, it's simple. We're taking your stack of sources, the news updates, the articles, and we're breaking down what you actually need to know.

Karan Rao (0:18)

Right, getting you fully caught up.

Ayesha Mehta (0:20)

Exactly. And we've got some wild stuff today. Like, right now, there's a Supreme Court question that could literally mean every single underage social media account shouldn't exist.

Plus, we're looking at an Indian conglomerate building America's biggest steel plant, and how a literal rainstorm just decided a major international cricket tournament.

Karan Rao (0:40)

Lots of ground to cover. Let's just get right into it. First headline, Rahul Gandhi flags 727 voter exclusions in Delhi.

Ayesha Mehta (0:48)

Yeah, so I was looking at this piece from NDTV, and the core facts here are that Rahul Gandhi went on X to highlight the alleged exclusion of 727 specific voters right in Delhi.

Karan Rao (1:01)

Right.

Ayesha Mehta (1:02)

And he pointed a finger directly at the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The argument being, even though Kumar will eventually retire, the actual administrative system that allowed those exclusions needs some serious scrutiny.

Karan Rao (1:15)

And well, as of right now, the Election Commission of India hasn't put out a public response to these specific claims. But to understand why this keeps coming up, you have to look at how voter roles actually work.

Ayesha Mehta (1:27)

They're constantly changing, right?

Karan Rao (1:28)

Exactly.

A voter list for like over a billion people is not a static PDF. It's this massive living database. The Election Commission does these periodic revisions to add the new 18-year-olds, remove people who have passed away or, you know, update addresses.

Ayesha Mehta (1:44)

But the friction is always in that revision process. Because when someone's name disappears from the list, there's this immediate tension.

Was it just administrative housecleaning or was it a malicious removal?

Karan Rao (1:57)

Yeah, that's the core of the debate. The opposition argues these discrepancies are actively disenfranchising legitimate voters.

Ayesha Mehta (2:03)

Right.

Karan Rao (2:03)

While on the flip side, the ruling BJP and the Election Commission consistently say, no, the electoral process is robust. They constantly push back against claims of systematic suppression. It really just shows the logistical tight rope of running a democracy at that scale.

Ayesha Mehta (2:18)

Moving to our next story, I'll just read the headline here. Nationwide SIR go back movement on Anvil, CM Revanth.

Karan Rao (2:27)

This one's reported by the Times of India. The focus is on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He's actively appealing for national unity, warning against attempts to divide the country.

Ayesha Mehta (2:38)

What I found really surprising in this report is how he framed it. He actually brought up his own past as an ABVP worker to bridge the ideological divide.

Karan Rao (2:48)

Yeah, that was a really interesting comparison he made.

Ayesha Mehta (2:51)

He praised former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, specifically noting how magnanimous Singh was in supporting Gujarat's development back when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister there.

Karan Rao (3:01)

Right, and he's using that history to draw a really sharp contrast with Today. Reddy is basically arguing that right now, there is a complete lack of central government support for states that are governed by the Congress Party.

Ayesha Mehta (3:13)

So the Sir Go Back movement is about resource allocation.

Karan Rao (3:17)

Exactly. The goal is to mobilize citizens against what he used as this dangerous political polarization and resource starvation.

Ayesha Mehta (3:24)

I mean, it's essentially a massive protest over federal relations. He's accusing the Center of playing favorites with the national wealth, based entirely on which parties empower locally.

Karan Rao (3:34)

And of course, the ruling party insists its policies and funds are equitably distributed for national development.

Ayesha Mehta (3:40)

Here's another one, Headline. Clashes erupt in Patna during protests seeking resignation of CEC.

Karan Rao (3:46)

So according to the Hindu, a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar escalated pretty violently in Patna.

Ayesha Mehta (3:55)

Over perceived bias, right? That was the core grievance?

Karan Rao (3:58)

Yes, demanding better electoral integrity and accusing the CEC of bias. But the situation on the ground just completely deteriorated. The protesters actually broke through the physical barricades that the security forces had set up.

Ayesha Mehta (4:10)

Oh, wow.

Karan Rao (4:10)

Yeah. And once those lines were breached, the police responded with water cannons and lathi charges to scatter the crowd. It caused massive traffic disruptions and chaos across the area.
