We kick things off with a major infrastructure milestone for heavy-duty electric trucking. Pilot Travel Centers and Tesla have officially opened their first Megacharger site designed specifically for electric class 8 trucks at a Pilot Travel Center in Elabel, Georgia. The facility features six charging stalls with 12 more heavy-duty sites currently under construction across key freight corridors. Each site will have four to eight stalls running Tesla's V4 cabinet technology, with each stall capable of delivering up to 1.2 megawatts, enough for a Tesla Semi to recover 60% of its charge in just 30 minutes. The Megacharger network is being strategically deployed along I-5, I-10, and other major freight corridors in California, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, and Texas. This charging infrastructure rollout is arriving as Tesla moves the Semi into high-volume production, which started at its Sparks Nevada factory on September 24th, with the plant designed for 50,000 trucks per year.
Over in the autonomous trucking sector, Houston-based Bot Auto is aggressively driving down the cost of driverless technology. The company announced Tuesday that it has selected Lenovo's AD1 autonomous driving domain controller built on Nvidia Hyperion as the production computer for its Class 8 driverless trucks. Bot Auto expects the full hardware bill of materials for its autonomy system, compute and sensors included, to run just $50,000 per truck, three to eight times less than competing systems on the market. The AD1 will go into Bot Auto trucks starting in the first quarter of 2027 Bot Auto currently moves about 350 loads per month across Texas and reported massive 270% revenue growth from May to August as it increased its focus on commercial freight and fleet utilization. In April, the company achieved a critical milestone when it ran its first fully humanless commercial load, a 231-mile overnight trip on Interstate 45 from Houston to Hutchins with no safety driver, remote operator, or in-cab observer.
Finally, consolidation is accelerating across the finished vehicle transportation sector. CCT Auto Trans announced Tuesday that it has acquired fellow car hauler Livingston Vehicle Transportation Services, or VTS, one of Canada's largest vehicle hauling networks. Livingston VTS operates its own fleet of trucks and car haulers, has seven locations nationally, and partners with Canadian National for transcontinental moves. Parent company CCT Group of Companies will operate Livingston VTS under CCT Vehicle Transportation Solutions, positioning CCT as the only company in Canada delivering open, enclosed, and rail vehicle transport. This acquisition follows other recent deals in the car haul space. In August, Acertus acquired Fisher Shipping, and Proficient Auto Logistics acquired Hansen & Adkins for $130 million.
Industry Watchers note, this highlights a clear trend toward consolidation within the car haul sector, as operators look to gain scale, expand geographies, and integrate service offerings.
