When Hollywood, politics, and personal conviction collide, the fallout can be devastating. Today we're diving into Patrick Bet-David's conversation with Zachary Levi, the actor best known for Shazam, and the price he's paid for speaking his mind. And that price has been steep. Levi says the backlash didn't arrive gently at all. Media outlets wrote hit pieces, he's lost millions of dollars, and he puts it bluntly: "They are just looking for ways to destroy you." But despite everything, he maintains that God can use painful ingredients to shape a person. What's fascinating is how he frames his platform. For Levi, it's a responsibility, not a trophy. And he's not alone in facing consequences. He argues there's a climate of fear inside Hollywood, where many conservatives and libertarians stay silent because they can't step outside the dominant narrative. That's where the political realignment becomes crucial in his view. He believes the shift around figures like Bobby Kennedy, Tulsi Gabbard, JD Vance, and Elon Musk really matters. Without voices willing to speak up, he thinks the country heads toward a worse place, driven by compliance out of fear. And Levi's been incredibly blunt about what speaking out has cost him personally. He's lost friends, lost studio work, and been pushed into a completely different professional lane.
Yet he compares this to a moral duty, saying, "If enough of us good men don't speak it, we are going to get steamrolled."
For him, silence during crisis is its own surrender. But the conversation gets even more personal when he discusses his journey. Levi reveals that Hollywood pulled him toward unhealthy relationships and abusive power structures. He traces this back to childhood, remembering himself as a shy, awkward kid who discovered that making people laugh felt like magic.
The family trauma runs deep. He opens up about his mother's mental illness, addiction, and years of conflict, including a devastating moment when she told him, "I would be happier today if you were dead." That's unimaginably painful. It is. But therapy helped him move from anger toward mercy, forgiveness, and understanding how trauma passes through generations.
Politically, he describes himself as broadly libertarian, favoring small government, states' rights, and more experimentation, including with plant medicine and different social policy approaches.
On abortion, he says the real question is when life begins, and he wants serious conversation between science and spirituality before people harden into camps. Interestingly, despite encouragement to run for office himself, he's hesitant. The fundraising burden, loss of privacy, and his current business commitments hold him back.
He believes any real call to public service has to come with a clear sense that God is opening the door. And that brings us to his vision for the future. He's building Wildwood Studios in Austin as a place where creative people can work without fear, especially as AI threatens to replace human crews. For Levi, the answer isn't revenge, but a better model, one grounded in dignity, freedom, and love. As he beautifully puts it, "To love is to will the good of the other." That's the foundation he's building on.
