I just, I wanted to start with, howdy, partner.
**Kyle Sandilands** (0:10)
Well, howdy there.
**Chris Spyrou** (0:12)
I'm just feeling, I'm feeling in the spirit of Dolly Parton, and that's how I want to kick off this weekend's Our Take. Hello, Chris Spyrou with you.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (0:20)
Hi, I'm Sacha Barbour Gatt.
**Chris Spyrou** (0:22)
As you're adjusting your mic levels. I know me too, mine's really low as well. Hold on, let me, oh, yours was high. Sorry, and I shouted into the microphone. Wait, let me put mine up.
Hi, y'all, welcome to this Saturday's Our Take. It is our weekend episode where we take our ties off, our shoes off. We're yet to do either of those things.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (0:39)
I have my shoes on.
**Chris Spyrou** (0:40)
And I don't want to take them off because it's been a bit of a sweaty day.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (0:43)
And we're in a closed glass room.
**Chris Spyrou** (0:46)
Yeah.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (0:46)
So we don't really take our shoes off. We do sit further back in our chairs.
**Chris Spyrou** (0:51)
Yeah, and are much more relaxed because we turn the lights off. It's very dark in the studio, which is never this dark. I do want to bring in the couches, though.
I do really want to sit on the couches. Because I feel like that's a much more relaxed vibe. Anyway, what was I doing? I was doing the setup for the show. I was setting up this show. So this is where we take a look back at the week that was and what we and you listening made of it. It's looser, it's chattier, it's a lot less serious, but still fact checked. Correct. We start by debriefing a big story that we couldn't stop talking or arguing about or a story that we didn't get to this week during the pod, which is the story we're debriefing this weekend.
Then it is our brand new Weekend Quiz where we find out if you've been paying attention to the headlines. We also open up our inbox and go through some of your DMs, comments and reactions from the week that was. And of course we cap it all off with the Weekend List where we recommend what to watch, see, do, eat and listen to. But first, let's get into our debrief.
**Kyle Sandilands** (1:50)
Jackie's claimed that I've caused her to suffer PTSD. And I just fell apart this morning. So crying in the shower like a fucking big sook. But that is so against what the reality of what happened was.
It's soul destroying. It really is. It's very upsetting to me.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (2:11)
Okay, so who you just heard there was Kyle Sandilands.
Now Chris's longtime personal friend. No, not really.
**Chris Spyrou** (2:19)
Short term working, well, I can't even call him a colleague.
**Kyle Sandilands** (2:24)
No, you interviewed him once. Interview we.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (2:26)
Yes, sure. So he was speaking on his own show on Wednesday that of course all came about after that huge split between him and Jackie O, who used to be the host of Kiss Sydney and Kiss Melbourne Breakfast.
They had a very public, very hot, very angry split. Court battles going on. Everything's happening. And what we just heard there was Kyle reacting to something that did actually come out of the court case between Jackie O and ARN. So to recap, ARN canceled both of their contracts in the wake of their very public fight on air.
**Chris Spyrou** (2:58)
Their contracts worth $200 million.
**Sacha Barbour Gatt** (3:01)
$200 million, correct. Kyle settled out of court for $12 million. Also, there were a couple of other things in there around advertising and ARN still having a little bit of a stake in it all. So that was Kyle's avenue so he could get back to broadcasting ASAP. Jackie is persisting with her court case against ARN. She's suing for $82 million, which she says she lost when her contract was wrongly torn up by the radio network. Now, on Tuesday, the federal court released updated court filings and sworn affidavits from Jackie O.
And in them, there were medical reports that found a psychiatrist had diagnosed her with post-traumatic stress disorder and that she was suffering from it as a result of Kyle's bullying, the failure of KIIS owner ARN to protect her, and the publication of a statement of the ASX detailing the termination of her contract. And as you just heard there, yeah, Kyle was really, really upset by this.
**Chris Spyrou** (3:55)
Yeah, the court also released her affidavit in this case against ARN. And in that, she alleged that she endured ongoing bullying, belittling and unpredictable and erratic behaviour on air from Kyle. And she says that escalated from 2023 onwards. She claims that his character attacks against her made her feel, quote, emotionally unsafe. And there's a little part of the affidavit there where she says, what had previously felt like humour or banter started at times to feel different. The comments and put downs became more pointed and less like they were said in fun and more like they were intended to belittle or humiliate me. And this became more difficult to tolerate over time. She's put forward some more psychiatric evidence and more than just that PTSD diagnosis.
