Hey everyone, it is Thursday, July 23rd. You are listening to the Monews podcast. I am Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts. We read all the news and read between the lines. So you don't have to. We're keeping an eye on tropical storm Bertha. The National Hurricane Center said that Bertha made landfall in St. Bernard Parish that's about 40 miles east of New Orleans. The storm is expected to weaken steadily now that it's reached land. It's not likely to leave behind widespread damage, but certainly something to keep an eye out for if you live in the affected area.

Now to the headlines. A new era of AI. An open AI model broke out of testing and hacked another company. Some say it sounds like the plot of a sci-fi movie. I will try to make sense of exactly what happened. The bodies of four US service members killed in Iranian attacks over the weekend. Return home. What we know about the fallen soldiers. And President Trump says the US could target Iran's bridges and other infrastructure, as this conflict continues to escalate. The president also approving a landmark nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia. What it means and why some lawmakers say they are concerned. There's a child's aid for former Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. He appeared in court on Wednesday with a fresh haircut to Mississippi. The death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, the results of an independent autopsy.
In business news, the push to make Padel the next pickleball and some of the big challenges.
And is LeBron James headed back to Miami? The Miami Heat posted and then took down a YouTube live stream titled LeBron Introductory Press Conference.
And as always, we will end this podcast with a little On This Day in History.
All right. Starting with the big story in the tech world, it is being dubbed AI gone rogue. OpenAI says that one of its models independently hacked into another company's systems. The company is calling it an unprecedented cyber incident. OpenAI, which makes ChatGPT, says this happened during internal testing of the hacking ability of GPT 5.6 sole and another unreleased advanced model. So these tests are done in what's called a sandbox, which is a controlled virtual environment. And that is when OpenAI says that the AI went rogue, breaking out of the sandbox. It gained internet access using stolen login information to access the servers of Hugging Face. That is a startup that hosts open source AI models. It's popular with web developers. Here's how CNN tech reporter Claire Duffy explained how this happened.
