Hey there, Ayesha Mehta and Karan Rao here.

Karan Rao (1:02)

Hello, welcome to the show.

Ayesha Mehta (1:04)

And today is Saturday, October 10, 2026

Karan Rao (1:07)

Right. And if you're new here, our whole mission for this deep dive is to basically take a massive stack of sources, the articles, the on-the-ground reports, economic data, and we just extract the crucial facts.

Ayesha Mehta (1:20)

Yeah, we do the reading so you don't have to.

Karan Rao (1:21)

Exactly. So you can walk away completely up to speed on what is actually happening.

Ayesha Mehta (1:26)

And we have got a really packed board today. Just to give you a quick preview of what we're unpacking, we're looking at Central Delhi basically turning into a fortress with a massive like 3,000 person detention.

Karan Rao (1:37)

Yeah, staggering numbers.

Ayesha Mehta (1:38)

Plus, there's an American stealth fighter jet that Indian pilots jokingly say they aren't even allowed to look at. And a geopolitical diesel deal that's directly linking American gas prices to the front lines of a European war.

Karan Rao (1:51)

It is a lot to cover.

Ayesha Mehta (1:53)

It is. Let's get right into it.

Karan Rao (1:55)

BJP accuses opposition of foreign collusion.

Ayesha Mehta (1:59)

Right.

Karan Rao (1:59)

So we are starting with a major, major political flashpoint developing in New Delhi. And the rhetoric surrounding it is just escalating at a rapid pace.

Ayesha Mehta (2:07)

It really is.

Karan Rao (2:08)

According to a very detailed report from The Telegraph, the BJP has officially labeled a recent massive protest at Jantar Mantar a, quote, flop show.

Ayesha Mehta (2:18)

A flop show. Okay.

Karan Rao (2:19)

Yeah. But, you know, the criticism went way beyond just talking about crowd sizes or the optics of the events.

Ayesha Mehta (2:25)

Right. It always does.

Karan Rao (2:26)

Exactly. The BJP is explicitly accusing the opposition, and they specifically named Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kedriwal, and the cockroach Jant the Party of actively attempting to spread anarchy across the country.

Ayesha Mehta (2:38)

And to really understand the sheer temperature of this dispute, you really have to look at the exact language that officials are deploying here. Definitely. Like, The Telegraph quotes BJP MP Sambit Patra. He was speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters on Saturday.

And he described the police detention of hundreds of youths and politicians as a victory of, quote, democracy over mobocracy.

Karan Rao (3:00)

Mobocracy. That is a highly deliberate linguistic framing.

Ayesha Mehta (3:04)

Oh, absolutely. By using the word mobocracy, the ruling party is painting these demonstrators not as citizens exercising their right to dissent.

Karan Rao (3:12)

Right. They're framing them as an unruly mob.

Ayesha Mehta (3:15)

Exactly. A mob actively trying to hold the national capital hostage.

Karan Rao (3:19)

And he was incredibly specific with his targets too. I mean, Patra directed a very sharp verbal barb directly at Rahul Gandhi, referring to him as a Nalayak leader.

Ayesha Mehta (3:28)

Wow.

Karan Rao (3:29)

Which for the listener who might not speak Hindi, Nalayak roughly translates to incompetent or unworthy, good for nothing basically.

Ayesha Mehta (3:37)

Yeah, it's a heavy insult.

Karan Rao (3:38)

And this specific insult was launched in direct response to remarks Gandhi made after he met with President Drupati Murmu on Friday. Because Gandhi had publicly claimed that the president didn't deny the India bloc's central allegation regarding the electoral process, an allegation they are calling vote chore.
