And where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to. And well, Jill, we can't not begin today's podcast without another mention of Dolly Parton.

That's right. And it turns out that Dolly Parton has one more surprise waiting for fans. But we're going to actually have to wait until 2045
So back in 2022, she revealed that she had recorded a song that had never been heard before. It's called My Place in History. And she sealed it in a time capsule at Dollywood, her Tennessee theme park. The song is not scheduled to be released until around what would have been her 100th birthday. So she was born January 19th, 1946 Of course, she died on Tuesday at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer.

Yeah, so apparently she recorded the song in 2015 and joked back in 2022 on The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon, that she sort of regrets keeping the song hidden all this time because she's like, this is a really good song, actually.

Apparently, it's in a time capsule at Dollywood, includes a CD player and instructions explaining to people in 2045 or 2046, how a CD player works and how they can play the recording.
I feel like in 20 years, Jill, there will still be some people around who had knowledge of CD players, but always nice to have those instructions there. If you're looking for more Dolly though, and you don't want to wait another 20 years, there is a show based on Dolly Parton's life and career that will be opening in New York City on Broadway. It's called Dolly, The True Original Musical. And it is set to begin previews on December 7th at the St. James Theatre before officially opening next January, January 19th to be exact, which would have been Dolly's 81st birthday. So if you are a New Yorker or in New York area or making New York plans and you want to check that out, it's just the latest in those sort of musical, biography musicals that we've seen through the years, whether it's Carole King's or Neil Diamond's, or the hit one right now about Michael Jackson.

We also learned that Parton's funeral will consist of a small private service for her immediate family. It will be in Nashville in the coming days.

And representatives for the Parton family are saying that in lieu of flowers, they want anybody who wants to give something to donate to her Imagination Library. That is her free book gifting program that has distributed tens of millions of books to kids throughout the years.

All right, to the headlines now. A devastating flash flood on the border between Nepal and Tibet kills more than 160 people. Hundreds of tourists are still missing, including Americans.

We're learning about what caused this, Jill, a melting glacier, it appears. We'll explain why scientists are very concerned that we could be seeing more of these in the coming years.

Meta has reached an $18 billion settlement with 48 states over child safety claims. And that settlement includes a slew of changes to Instagram and Facebook that should make those platforms safer and less addicting for kids.

This happened during the trial that we've been reporting on. As Mark Zuckerberg was set to testify in the coming weeks here, we'll tell you the rationale here behind Meta going for a deal, as well as the states here going for a deal.

In health news, the FDA has approved a new drug to treat pancreatic cancer. It is being called a game changer for patients. Another warning about the potential dangers of AI, this time from Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates.

Just the latest warning here we're getting from one of the big founders in the tech world about what awaits us if we don't place any limits on AI.

In education news, why schools are assigning fewer full books.
