Coming up today on Mini Scroll, Mikayla Nogueira on Jay Shetty, Gloria gets an apology from House Labs, Simply Crochet Magazine is under fire for its treatment of a featured creator, and Ariana Madix calls out Love Island, Australia. Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily internet culture podcast, bringing you the biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the Australian youth digital media brand, Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone, and thank you so much to today's sponsor, The Commons, Australia's premium co-working space. The Commons is truly a main character in the Centennial World cinematic universe, as the Chippendale location in Sydney has been our home for over five years, and it's where we record this podcast every single day. Whether you're a creative escaping the home office or a business owner looking to scale, the Commons offers beautifully designed spaces and a genuine sense of community across Sydney and Melbourne. And while the spaces are stunning, it's the team that really makes the difference. Their support for growing businesses has enabled Centennial World success and sometimes survival over the years. So if you're looking for a co-working space that feels considered, is community-led, and actually backs to people working there, head to thecommons.com.au. All right, everyone, welcome back to Mini Scroll.

Okay, the first story that I wanted to quickly touch on, it's not like a full on story, but Mikayla Nogueira, obviously like TikTok's biggest beauty influencer, she was on Jay Shetty on his podcast. It was a very long interview. It was over two hours long and I listened to the whole thing and I actually thought it was pretty good. So I just wanted to give like my thoughts on it, essentially is what I'm doing here. I thought it was pretty good.
She didn't have the accent, which she does address in the episode. I know she's spoken about her accent here and there and says, it's much stronger when she's by herself, when she's with her family and friends, and then when she's in public or if she's doing a work thing or whatever, she's able to code switch and sometimes it's not even fully conscious. I understand that, especially as someone who is Canadian and lives in Australia. I think I sound probably so much more Canadian when I go home, or I'm around my brother, my parents, my Canadian friends here versus when I'm around my Australian friends, or have been in Australia for a long period of time. Although, every single person is always like, how have you been there for 10 years and you haven't even picked up a single Australian twang?
I don't know, maybe I'm not the best example.
But yes, her accent, she did not have the very thick Boston accent. She also did say that she plays it up here and there, because she knows that people question her accent. So like the Kim Kardashian meme, she talks about that. And she's like, that was me playing up my accent. And I think in general, the episode was pretty good for her PR image. I mean, I think there's going to be a giant cohort of people that will never like her. And they will always think that she is a liar. And I know there's a lot of discussion right now about how many filters she uses and how she just facetunes herself into oblivion and all of that kind of stuff. She's been doing a lot of public appearances for her brand. And people have been taking photos that were taken for like in the wild versus her TikTok videos and being like, look at how different she looks. And I don't know, that's not really something that I'm like comfortable commenting on. I really try and not comment on people's looks on Mini Scroll. But in general, like there's always gonna be this giant portion of her audience or of people in general on the internet who really hate her. It seems like she's come to peace with that, which is good. But the biggest thing to come out of the interview was when she spoke about her relationship with Cody, her marriage with him, and how that broke down. And she does talk about his addiction, I would say, in detail, but the detail is reserved for her experience. So she does talk about specific instances when he relapsed, and she goes into detail, somewhat detail. I would say more intimate personal detail than we would have known, or probably maybe she should have shared, about his relapses and his experiences and what he's been going through, but it is always through the lens of herself, as the person supporting him through this and how she was really struggling with knowing how to be married to somebody who was relapsing, an inactive addiction and all of that kind of stuff. So she did seem to reserve it mostly to her experience, but she did open up about his experiences a little bit, and that has been slightly controversial. Like some people are like, she has every right to share her experience, like she was in it with him, and then others are like, okay, she's really opening up and sharing for millions of people. Like Jay Shetty is a huge podcast. Jay Shetty is a huge podcast. I mean, she is a huge figure anyways. Any interview she did, she would get millions of views, but like especially Jay Shetty.
