Gerard Gibert (1:01)
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to MidDays. SuperTalk Mississippi. I'm your host, Gerard Gibert, along with Rhino in the Element Well Studio, guiding you through the middle of your day with facts, fodder, and fine music on this Friday Eve. Man, yeah, we got a little storm brewing out there in the Gulf, fortunately, for our broadcast from cruising the coast yesterday on the Biloxi Town Green right there on Highway 90, surrounded by all those shiny classic vehicles. The weather was pretty good. It was a little windy. You probably heard the wind on the mic there.
It would flare up every now and then. I was worried about the tent on top of us, but scary Gary, he had it weighted down pretty good to keep it from blowing away.
But we had a good day yesterday overall, blessed with good weather, and had a number of fantastic guests. And of course, Woody Bailey, man, so hard to believe. 30 years later, he of course, the brainchild of cruising the coast and all the coastal communities unite together and really make a big deal out of it. Folks from all over the nation and some from outside of the United States to send upon Mississippi's beautiful Gulf Coast, enjoying each other's company, the classic vehicles, and of course, getting treated to the renowned, world renowned, right? Oh, Mississippi hospitality, Gulf Coast style. That's pretty good. So congratulations to everybody involved, bigger and better every single year. USA Today says, the best car show in America.
You heard me tell Woody yesterday, won't be too long that vehicles that were of the model year when the event started will be eligible to participate. What did he say yesterday? 89? They have to be 89 and older, right? So we got a few more years to go to get to that point, but not many. That's pretty cool. So the love those folks have for those vehicles and the care that they put into those things to get them ready and just beaming with pride, and I don't blame them. Something to be proud of. American machines, man, from the golden age of automobile manufacturing. You heard Capitol Police Chief Bo Lucky. He had his eyes on one of those big Lincoln Town cars with the suicide doors. By the way, I didn't realize till his interview was done when I looked around my shoulder, it was a few feet away, a black one that was sitting there. You know, they're about 40 feet wide, it seems, and sit about six inches off the ground.
Giant tires on them with the suicide doors. Man, you'd be styling in that thing heading down the highway, would you? How about the chief in that? There goes the chief.

In the land yacht.
Gerard Gibert (4:21)
That's exactly right. Well, we're all buckled up, ready to go. We got Benny Foster, independent candidate for the United States House, Mississippi's second congressional district, of course, currently represented by Benny Thompson. He'll be in the Alamut Wealth Studio to talk about his campaign. And then, of course, at 11.05 today, Rhino is going to get the National Weather Service on the horn to give us the latest. So it looks like it wobbled a bit to the west overnight, Rhino, which is not good for the state of Mississippi.
I don't think...
SPEAKER_3 (5:01)
At least not the eastern half. Because the cone of uncertainty, or whatever the heck they're calling it nowadays, is draped over pretty much the eastern half of the Magnolia state.
Gerard Gibert (5:14)
Okay.
So that means, for the most part, the more powerful weather, the stronger winds, etc. to our east. So we would be spared that. Still probably get some downpours. Oh, yeah. And some rain. And, you know, I'm going to make a decision today about, we had Tony Malone and Mike on last week, you recall, talking about this Vietnam, traveling Vietnam memorial, going to be at Veterans Park in Meridian on Saturday.
And I'm scheduled to be among the many speakers there, which is an honor, beyond belief. But we're worried about the weather at this point. And so I think they're going to make a call later today as to whether or not. That's such a shame, man. Is this weird or what, that we're here in October? I mean, I know that we're still inside hurricane season.
