Dave Hughes (0:50)

Good morning to you. It's Tuesday.

Monday is in the rearview mirror. Time to officially get the week started. I know Monday is supposed to be the start of the week, but come on.

No, nobody's doing what they're supposed to be doing on Monday. We're just kind of sleepwalking through the whole thing. I may not be speaking for Rhino. He's always on point, but usually that's kind of the case with human beings. You give a solid 20 percent on Mondays, and then you build from there. Rhino in the box, how are you doing, sir?

SPEAKER_3 (1:21)

Oh, not too bad for Tuesday.

Dave Hughes (1:24)

Yeah, yeah, which is, you know, if Monday isn't really the start of the week, that means Tuesday is now the default start of the week, which makes it Monday.

This plan is not working like we thought it was going to. Before we get to anything else, I was excited to see this, and hopefully it will come true. We're once again being told there's a cool front possibly on the way next week. Now, I want you to remember, two weeks ago, we were told there was a cool front coming last week. Last week, we were told there was a cool front coming this week, so odds are getting lower that they're actually telling the truth. Are we misreading the patterns this badly, or are we just trying to give people some hope to cling to?

SPEAKER_3 (2:13)

I feel like it's a bit of both. Like, the farther out you get, the harder it is to be accurate, but you probably put your thumb on the scale to make sure that everything is at least looking like it's going to get better.

Dave Hughes (2:25)

Yeah. And keep in mind, when we say cool front, I'm not talking about get out the mittens weather, just a little bit of a drop, but we take it. Dropping the humidity, dropping the temperature a little bit, we'd be in good shape, I think, if it happens. You know, we go through this every year, about the middle of September, where we get impatient for fall to start. You and I both know fall is going to come. Stay three days and then leave. Then we'll go back to summer for about a week and a half. Then fall will come back through again for a couple of days. Then it will leave. Then summer will be back. Then fall will be here for two weeks and then it's winter. That's the way it always works here.

So, don't get your hopes up too high. There are so many stories right now that involve... Stop listening to this. Just take things as they come. I'm going to put AI in that category. We're going to be talking about that today. In case you haven't heard, AI is going to steal your cattle. It's going to kidnap your pets and abandon them off in the woods somewhere.

It's going to slap your grandkids. It's going to do all these horrible things. It's going to take over the world. It's going to end all of humanity in the next 10 years.

You do realize the only reason we have an unbroken string of this is about to kill everyone stories is that everyone keeps believing them. Everyone keeps buying into it. If you stop, they stop.

It's not that hard. Why do you, Rhino, why do you think we lean towards desperately wanting to panic?

SPEAKER_3 (4:23)

Because it's human nature to fear that which you don't understand, and it's amplified by our age demographics. The baby boomer generation was the largest generation ever, until millennials came along.

And both generations have been proven time and time again to be guilty of not liking change.

Dave Hughes (4:55)

Yeah, that's very true. Very, very true.

SPEAKER_3 (4:58)

So when you have that much of the population against change, just because it's change, you wind up with pushback on innovation.

Dave Hughes (5:09)

And if people are scared of things they don't understand, I agree with that, by the way. Very accurate assessment, as always. If people are afraid of things they don't understand, everyone in the state must be terrified of four-way stops. Because if there's one thing they don't understand, saw it again this morning, on the way in, we don't understand how those work. So we should be terrified of them, right?
