Good morning, everyone. Welcome to MidDays Super Talk Mississippi. I'm your host, Gerard Gibert, on location at Northwest Mississippi Community College for the college's centennial celebration. Rhino Safe and Sound back in the Super Talk headquarters in Jackson will be guiding you through the middle of your day with facts, fodder, and fine music. What about it there, Rhino? Howdy, howdy.
Well, it was a very enjoyable long weekend, and we're all buckled up, ready to go. We got a beautiful setting here at Northwest Mississippi Community College. If you can check us out on video, we are positioned in sort of a little mini-grove area, some really big towering oak trees. I mean, some wide trunks at the bottom, like six feet, eight feet or so. And in the background, the primary administration building of the Community College. And right now, I think we are enjoying the national anthem. A number of folks assembled here. The chairman of the board, Corey Yuslton, just welcomed all the attendees. One hundred years, Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Over the weekend, some sad news to report. Claiborne County Deputy Terry and Bailey lost his life in the line of duty around midnight Saturday evening. You know, our law enforcement officers, they put their lives on the line every single dang shift. They walk out with that uniform on, the badge, their weapon, out to protect the people of the great state of Mississippi. And of course, all across the country do law enforcement officers swear to perform their duty.
And apparently, there was some sort of rundown, I know I saw with him and a felon to whom he was serving a warrant. I believe that's correct. Might want to check me out on that. I know my daughter, who's the press secretary of the Department of Public Safety, got notified of this and was working on information statements and just understanding what the heck went on here. It's so sad. Anytime, of course, a member of our law enforcement is brutally assaulted and in this situation killed by some dang felon. Just absolutely incredible. So it's my understanding that Sheriff, Deputy Sheriff Bailey leaves behind a wife and a couple of children. And so he, his family is certainly in our prayers here in the great state of Mississippi. This is just a tragedy and it's incredibly sad. It just makes you mad because I feel like there's something we ought to be doing. And I don't know exactly what that is other than this moral decay that exists in society. Now, there is some good news with respect to violent crime in this country. It is down. I'd like to think that's because this administration has emphasized law enforcement enforcing the rule of law. It's a pretty simple, straightforward concept that was dismissed to a great deal under the Biden administration. It feels like RINO Democrats are always looking to make excuses. Oh, there's a reason. It's no different than this Clancy case just making all the excuses for this woman murdering her children. I'm tired of the excuses. There are no excuses. Nothing legitimate, in my view. And that certainly is the case here with this deputy sheriff who lost his life, Claiborne County Deputy Sheriff Terry and Bailey. Unbelievable. So, please keep his family in your prayers, folks. You probably saw this rather bizarre jet accident that occurred at the Miami International Airport involving an Amazon cargo plane over the weekend. The plane overshot the runway, struck a cleaning crew van. It killed five people.
And I'm looking at the vehicle. Pardon me, I'm looking at, thinking about that vehicle, you probably heard in the background. Yes, I was looking at that. I don't know why this individual, I'm just going to go ahead and say it right. Oh, an idiot had to drive by and race their motor while all the folks are gathered here out in the green space. And the road that parallels us, a heavily traveled road where there is the entrance to Northwest Mississippi Community College. Why do they have to do that? It's, you're not cool, and honestly, you look like a fool. Back to this accident. I'm looking at this airplane that looks like it's pretty close to a parking lot where it overshot the runway, and the nose gears collapsed with the nose on the ground, resting on the ground.
