Where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to. There have been a lot of headlines as we start here about the pop star Ariana Grande. She's been speaking out about her decision to leave the public eye for a while. You might have seen this headline over the weekend.
She's doing a tour right now that wraps September 1, then was set to star in a play and do some other things. But her rep, Jill, says that she's going to be taking a step back.
**Jill Wagner** (1:38)
Yeah, she actually talked about it as well earlier this week, as there has been public scrutiny about her health and her physical appearance. But she said at this concert in Chicago that the announcement was made, it wasn't a reactive or impulsive thing. Those are her words. She said it was something that she has decided and a plan that had been made quietly a while ago.
**Mosheh Oinounou** (1:58)
Yeah, she said it wasn't about the negativity online, but there has been a lot of it. And that was really the backdrop of a lot of coverage that you've seen is in regards to all the commentary about her appearance and her health.
Some people showing genuine concern for how thin, how skinny she's gotten, some of it pretty cruel. Nobody really has access to her medical information, a lot of speculation there.
Grande has previously said that the body people once considered her quote healthiest actually reflected an unhealthy period for her. And that right now she says that she's healthy despite, again, appearing skinnier than before. Now, of course, Grande does influence young women. There's a lot of body image issues out there. And it has led to a larger conversation about that. But also sort of the parasocial relationship that people have with celebrities and the feeling that just because we enjoy their music and we have access to them, at least through social media, that we should also be able to opine on all aspects of their lives.

All right, let's get to the headlines now, starting with politics, one of the most closely watched and most expensive primary races in the country. Progressive Abdul El-Sayed has beaten the more moderate congresswoman Haley Stevens in Michigan. What this says about the future of the Democratic Party, and can El-Sayed win the general election in November?
**Mosheh Oinounou** (3:25)
Yeah, this is a big deal. The Senate race, one of the many races we are watching on Tuesday night, will have a bunch of results for you.

To the West Coast, what we know about the man arrested for starting one of the biggest fires currently burning in Spokane, Washington.
**Mosheh Oinounou** (3:39)
Meanwhile, more than a year and a half after those fires in Southern California, specifically that Eaton fire, fire officials have now released a cause.
**Jill Wagner** (3:48)
Overseas, the US is sending more intelligence assets to Cuba.
