Karmelo Anthony Sentenced to 35 Years for the Murder of Austin Metcalf

So yeah, we'll start off the show today with, I would say probably is the biggest story in the United States right now. Very serious story. It was about the incident that happened a couple of years ago. Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old, stabbed another 17-year-old at a track meet in Texas. The trial has been going on and, well, stabbed and killed another 17-year-old. And the verdict came in yesterday and he was sentenced. And a lot of people have feelings on that. So we will get into that story. The second one, a little more lighthearted.

I feel like you love this. Taylor Swift, Toy Story 5 premiere. She went, which was kind of crazy.

**Courtney** (1:32)
And she sang.

Oh, I didn't even know that. We're breaking news to be on the podcast right now. So she, yeah, we'll get into all that. We have a few more details about the wedding.
So we'll get into that as well. And then finally, all Brad Pitt's kids clearly hate him because another one has dropped Pitt from The Last Name.

It's insane.

So we will tell you who that is and kind of what's going on with the Pitt, Jolie family.
So Karmelo Anthony first. So like I said on the top, from the top, just a little background. Two years ago, there's two 17 year olds.

**Courtney** (2:09)
April, 2025

Oh yeah. Oh, so a year ago.

**Courtney** (2:12)
Yeah.

**Deven** (2:13)
Okay. So a year ago, there are two 17 year olds. They were at a track meet. They went to different schools. I believe there was thunderstorms. So the track meet had been stopped down. So basically all the different schools are underneath their tents. And from what was said in court, Karmelo Anthony went into the tent of another team, Austin Metcalf. He has a twin brother who is also there.
There was some type of altercation between them where Austin shoved Karmelo Anthony. And I guess it depends on what side you hear, but was trying to remove him from the tent.

**Courtney** (2:50)
Yes. Aggressively remove him from the tent.

**Deven** (2:52)
Yes. The defense was saying that Karmelo feared for his life, and then Austin was using deadly force and ultimately-

**Courtney** (2:59)
Told him not to touch him, get his hands off of him.

**Deven** (3:01)
And Karmelo Anthony pulled a knife out and stabbed Austin Metcalf in the chest once. He ended up dying. Obviously, extremely tragic incident all around.
So anyways, the trial has been going on, and he was found guilty by a jury pretty quickly yesterday, and then ultimately sentenced to 35 years for the murder of Austin Metcalf.

And can't even go to be up for parole until half his sentence is served.

**Deven** (3:29)
Which is crazy. So he's 19 now, so roughly he'll be in his like almost 40, right? Or in his mid 30s before he's up for parole.

**Courtney** (3:39)
Yeah. What I didn't understand during like following this trial is that why the defense only brought one person up to testify. They only brought one person up, his mother, to be like, I believe that part was for the sentencing.
But so why didn't they bring any eyewitnesses up? Because she was the only eyewitness that they sent.

**Deven** (3:58)
I think at that point, he had been convicted of murder. And they were just, you know, you put the guys...

**Courtney** (4:04)
Yeah, but bring some other...

**Deven** (4:05)
The kids' mom up there.

**Courtney** (4:06)
The track meets that were there to also say how Austin was.

**Deven** (4:10)
But she was just, yeah, I think at that point, they were hoping for some sympathy of like, here's a mother who, the kid was 17 at the time, who is now going to spend, you know, I was just thinking about this yesterday.
