Joining us now is Ben Domenech, Daily Wire opinion editor and host of the District Club. So we have a lot to cover today, but let's start with the midterms. The president was in Texas last night. That's his second trip this week.

What's he doing in Texas? Is the GOP concerned there?

Ben Domenech (2:12)

Yes, they are concerned and that's why he's making repeat visits this time to San Antonio.

You know, this is a situation that the GOP saw coming. Donald Trump endorsed Ken Paxton late after it was already clear that he was going to beat incumbent Senator John Cornyn. And Paxton has had a pretty rough go of it in the past week or so with audio leaking from a meeting that he had, a fundraising meeting in Washington, DC where he complained about the White House's role. He complained about the Dallas Convention that the RNC held and he complained about a lack of control of his own campaign.

Ken Paxton (2:45)

I've never been in a race where I felt less control over the campaign and what issues are going to matter because it's all coming from DC and I don't control the message or what we're doing or I don't have the ability to change anything. So I have to live with whatever I've got.

Ben Domenech (3:01)

This is a race that Republicans are very concerned about and that's why Donald Trump is making his stop there along with other states that he is hitting and plans to hit in the weeks to come.

John Bickley (3:11)

Yeah, what are some of those other states and is Michigan one of them?

Ben Domenech (3:15)

Yeah, so the president yesterday said that he was planning to hit Michigan within the next week, week and a half or so.

And that's certainly going to be something that is getting a lot of eyeballs on it, given the fact that that is such a close and tight race that people are paying attention to nationally. He was in Nebraska just the other day and he's bounced around to Ohio and to other places. He's going to be in New York this week as well to have some impact there where the governor's race is surprisingly close within single digits, where Kathy Hochul has not been able to pull away the way that she has in the past. That's probably a pipe dream for the GOP, but they're leaning into some of these states where they feel like they could expand the map potentially and have Democrats spend money in places that could go to more competitive races.

Big picture, does it seem like Trump is helping on the campaign trail?

Ben Domenech (4:05)

It's a little too early to say, and I think that some of these candidates are unsure about it. We'll see how he plays in Michigan, certainly in Texas, I think that he's trying to get the same coalition that has voted for him consistently out to support Ken Paxton. That's not something though that is going to be as easy perhaps as you might think, given that so many of the people who he's trying to reach with that message are part of the minority contingent of Hispanic voters in particular, who were new additions to the Republican coalition in 2024 and are not as excited this time around to vote, given the economy and the state of things nationally.
