IN FULL: The Kyle Sandilands interview

The Briefing

August 2, 2026

Five months after the Kyle and Jackie O Show was pulled off air, Kyle Sandilands will be back behind the microphone with a paid subscription show that launches next week.
Speakers: Chris Spyrou, Kyle Sandilands

Kyle Sandilands spent more than two decades dominating the airwaves in this country. His show with Jackie Henderson, The Kyle and Jackie O Show, ran across two major networks and sat at the top of the most competitive and lucrative slot in Australian radio, Sydney Breakfast.
But it all came crashing down after an on air spat sparked by Prince Andrew's birth chart back in Feb.

**Kyle Sandilands** (0:26)
Yeah, I'm sorry.

**Chris Spyrou** (0:28)
Are you still looking up Andrew's birth chart?

**Kyle Sandilands** (0:30)
I'm just reading it now. It's actually starting to affect your job.

**Chris Spyrou** (0:34)
I know because, well, it is my job.

**Kyle Sandilands** (0:35)
It's like if you're a drug addict. No, that's not your job.

**Chris Spyrou** (0:38)
I said it earlier in the show.

**SPEAKER_3** (0:40)
I said I'll be coming back with it.

**Kyle Sandilands** (0:41)
I don't think it should be at the detriment of everything else on the show, this relentless research into the patterns of the...

**Chris Spyrou** (0:48)
I only just did it then.

**Kyle Sandilands** (0:50)
It's affecting other things. Like your fixation on this has made you... I only just did it like a little bit.

**Chris Spyrou** (0:56)
Henderson was reduced to tears and walked out of the studio. And within weeks, the pair's landmark $200 million radio contracts were torn up.
Then it was on.

**SPEAKER_3** (1:06)
I have just received a statement from Kyle. ARN has just announced that they have terminated my contract. He says I don't accept it. My lawyers told them last week this would be invalid. And guess what? It is.
I've got rights under that contract and ARN hasn't honoured the contract. So it's over to my lawyers.

**Chris Spyrou** (1:26)
Sandilands filed an $85 million lawsuit in the federal court claiming he'd been wrongfully sacked by the radio network. Henderson filed her own for $82 million, accusing ARN of failing to give her a safe workplace with Sandilands' seven-minute tirade and other alleged behaviour at the centre of it.
Now, Sandilands has since settled out of court while Henderson's case is headed for a two-week hearing later this week. And while the Kyle and Jackie O show is no more, the self-proclaimed king has his hands back on his golden microphone. Next Monday, he's live again. Not on commercial radio, but on his own independent Kyle Sandilands live.
I sat down with Kyle to talk about the new show. He says billionaires are circling. And I asked him whether he takes any responsibility for what went down with his co-host. He also makes his case for why we need a quote unquote unfiltered, uncensored Kyle. We talk about Karl Stefanovic, Pauline Hansen, and whether he thinks the very thing he's building could end up killing radio in this country. He also answers the questions you sent in and gives us an exclusive, the identity of a controversial guest he's planning on having on in week one. So with all that, it's a wide-ranging chat. It's a longer than usual chat. And here it is for you now.
It's been five months since you've been on air properly on commercial radio.
I understand your time has consisted of talking to plants, shopping for cleaning products.

**Kyle Sandilands** (2:55)
Yes, I went to Coles. That was fun.

**Chris Spyrou** (2:57)
You learnt about fly-buys, I heard, or everyday rewards.

**Kyle Sandilands** (2:59)
I did. From an old woman at BP server.
The guy's like, do you have fly-buys? I said, look, I don't know what that is, but you always ask me. And the woman said, you can convert that to cash with the Westpac. I was like, oh, she has that might come in handy. I thought, oh, she's obviously read the paper.

**Chris Spyrou** (3:14)
She's on it, she's in charge.

**Kyle Sandilands** (3:14)
She knows I've lost the big money. Poor thing.

**Chris Spyrou** (3:18)
Yeah, so I understand you learnt about fly-buys. You've been shopping for cleaning products and enjoying a particular, sometimes illicit, but medical substance.

**Kyle Sandilands** (3:28)
Which one?

**Chris Spyrou** (3:28)
The cannabis. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, sorry, sometimes illegal. Sometimes illegal, depending on where we are in the country.

**Kyle Sandilands** (3:33)
I had to hang up the nostrils for the coke sniffing when I got the aneurysms.

**Chris Spyrou** (3:38)
Really?

**Kyle Sandilands** (3:39)
Yeah, I've got a brain aneurysm and one in the chest as well. Apparently, that's from poor lifestyle choices. So whenever you guys are getting on the ket or whatever, it's going to bite you in the ass at one stage. Cut that shit out. Say no to drugs. Unless, of course, you've got a medical prescription.
