So, here we go, episode two with my wonderful wife. This is Lauren.
**Lauren** (0:06)
We are back.
**Anthony** (0:07)
Yeah. And today, we got a few things we were ready to talk about. So, we're gonna talk about a workout we did last Sunday.
At this point, we're recording on Friday. So, we'll talk about our week a little bit, a couple of workouts, things we learned from that. There were some races released, and so, we can talk about some of the West Coast where he says that I'm actually pretty excited for, which is San Diego and Portland. And then, the CrossFit Games are going on right now. So, we've both been tuned into those. A little bit differently, I found out right before this.
**Lauren** (0:43)
Yeah, it's been super interesting. Like, we're both following the games, like, very, very closely, but we're not following in the same way. So, Anthony is watching all of the live streams.
I'm watching all of the race, both recaps, but what they're presenting before, ahead of time. And I'm following the leaderboard very closely. And, I don't know, I guess just, like, what we're getting from it is very, very different, which is super interesting. Yeah.
**Anthony** (1:10)
So, we'll talk about that. And it's a little bit interesting that we're absorbing it from two different angles as well. And it actually kind of matches us. Like, I'm watching the workouts. You're watching the interviews and human aspect afterwards.
**Lauren** (1:24)
Yeah. So, yeah, I'm also watching a lot of the behind the scenes stuff. So, I'm learning about how the athletes are feeling as they're going through from piece to piece. I'm finding it fascinating that they've been allowed. Like, so, a lot of the behind the scenes. No, not a lot. All of the behind the scenes footage that's coming out right now is not from CrossFit itself. It's from separate media sources. So, CrossFit has allowed these media sources to get behind the scenes access to the athletes, both before their events, in between events and after. And while, like, as a fan, it's really cool to see the emotions and like these different things that I definitely would not have gotten to see on just a plain livestream. I'm also thinking about it from the athletes point of view and how I would feel if I were in their shoes. And it's really intrusive, to be honest. And yes, I love seeing it.
But if I were in their shoes, I don't think I would love a camera being shoved in my face like right before I'm about to go or like right after I finish where I can't even catch my breath. Like I definitely would want maybe a little bit of space right before I went. And then just a tiny, tiny bit after because I know after HYROX races and then I know even after some CrossFit events, it's really, really hard to even say a word. Like I need, give me two minutes, please.
**Anthony** (2:59)
So we'll talk about the CrossFit games happening.
And then we have a coaching topic today. We're going to go over a piece of threshold runs and threshold training. What happens when you get to what Marius Becken calls Type 3 Creeping Drift. So when the last couple of intervals or the last two or three intervals of whatever your threshold work are, are drifting out of the golden zone or your heart rate is elevating higher than it was. So we're going to go over Creeping Drift and what to do about it. And then something that I think you're going to hear a lot more about, especially because the Tour de France is going on right now. And we've seen it with one of the teams. We saw it with Kajelka doing the London Marathon. And it's been creeping more and more into it. I asked Matt Johnson of The Feed. I had a message to him and asked him about it. And he gave me a response. We're going to talk about exogenous lactate.
**Lauren** (3:57)
So there's been a lot of chatter out there. You are seeing a lot of the Tour de France teams are using this.
There's not a lot of, there's not a ton of research out right now. There is a little bit and we will go over it. From my understanding, there isn't a sport certified option out there, which doesn't make sense to me because these Tour de France athletes are being constantly tested. So there has to be some way that they're making sure that these are sport certified and safe for them to use, because I can't imagine that they would be risking that. But yeah, there is still a lot to learn and we will go over what we have learned so far and what we know. No testing being done on our side because again, I haven't found a sport certified option. So just kind of watching and seeing what these teams and other athletes are doing and going off that and seeing, I think we need more time to tell whether or not it is working.
