Which is why the song proceeds to say, let's call the whole thing off. That's my interpretation.

Moshe, we are in the dog days of summer, as they say, and some news about dogs. Apparently, what dog owners have long suspected, that their pets can tell if they're happy, sad or scared.
Well, you know what? Some new research shows that they're probably right.

**Mosheh Oinounou** (1:01)
Yes. A scientist over at the University of Vienna in Austria trained pet dogs to remain awake and still during MRI scans, and then showed them pictures of human faces expressing happiness, anger, fear, sadness. This is all according to a study published this week in the journal iScience, and they found that happy faces activated areas of the dog's brains associated with reward and higher level processing even when dogs were looking at happy strangers, and that angry, fearful, sad faces produce their own different patterns inside the dog's brains.

Researchers say domestication may have helped dogs develop the social skills necessary to understand and cooperate with humans, even though they follow a very different evolutionary path. And this study notably was small. It included mostly border collies, so researchers do want to examine more breeds. And they say that in real life, dogs don't just rely on faces. They also read our voices, our body language, and even our scent.

But keep that in mind next time you fight in front of the dog.

They're always listening. And the kids, by the way.

**Mosheh Oinounou** (2:12)
Well, obviously, you think about that with kids. But now, the dogs are getting a sense of what's going on around them as well. At least based on this study of border collies.
Can't speak for all dogs. I'm smarter than others.

**Jill Wagner** (2:24)
We do need some research on why dogs start to look like their owners. Because that also happens.

**Mosheh Oinounou** (2:31)
It's the chicken or the egg thing, right? Are the owners just purchasing dogs that look like them? Or is it they're an evolution there? But that's a study for another day.

**Jill Wagner** (2:40)
Okay, to the headlines. Starting with politics. Another primary day in America. The results from elections in Florida, Alaska and Wyoming. As we are now less than 80 days from the midterms. The US debt set to hit $40 trillion this week. That is months earlier than expected.

Yeah, ABC, which is owned by Disney, says politics are at play here. They don't like what Jimmy Kimmel has been saying or what's been said on The View, and they believe they are being unfairly, plainly punished.

In business news, Nike stock has been plunging to a 12-year low.

Yes, the stock down 80% in just five years. What went wrong for Nike? Considered to be one of those brands in that higher stratosphere of brands, Jill, but major issues in recent years. And we'll tell you about how the company is looking to turn things around.
