A judge has blocked the construction of Trump's ballroom, the president takes another stab at limiting birthright citizenship, and another WNBA player has weighed in on the trans debate. I'm Georgia Howe with Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley. It's Friday, August 7th, and this is Evening Wire.
A Washington-based court of appeals ordered that the Trump administration halt all construction on the $400 million ballroom construction project. The president's ambitious renovation project has been a surprisingly contested venture. The appeals court put their ruling on hold for two weeks, allowing for the Trump administration to appeal to the Supreme Court. The Trump administration considers their renovations to be critical for the safe accommodation of large formal gatherings. The appeals court argues that the president does not have the authority to make such a large scale renovation without the approval of Congress.

President Trump has taken another shot at cracking down on the abuse of birthright citizenship after the Supreme Court ruled against his previous executive order. Daily Wire contributor Tim Peirce has more.

The Supreme Court in June ruled against the president's order seeking to deny citizenship to the children born to non-citizens on American soil. But on Thursday, Trump signed two new orders addressing the issue. The first directs federal agencies to take steps aimed at preventing foreigners from exploiting birthright citizenship through birth tourism and certain surrogacy arrangements. It also seeks to exempt children born to foreign government agents and individuals classified as alien enemies from automatic citizenship in US territories. The second order directs the state department to deny tourist visas to foreigners who intend to travel here to give birth for the purpose of securing American citizenship for their children.
President Trump said during the signing, quote, they've taken birthright citizenship and they've made a joke out of it.

The US military might be close to a major breakthrough in high-energy laser weaponry. According to Fox News, the US Army is close to awarding a contract for a new laser weapon system, the enduring high-energy laser. A prototype system was tested at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and Army Acquisition Executive Lieutenant General Frank Lozano said it had shown a lot of recent promise and capability. A low-cost laser would likely be deployed first in defense. The weapon could handle incoming missile and drone attacks for much less than the current cost of interceptors.

Senator Marsha Blackburn easily secured Tennessee's Republican gubernatorial nomination Thursday, prevailing over two conservative rivals, even though President Trump stayed out of the race. Meanwhile, firebrand conservative and Trump endorsed incumbent Representative Andy Ogles' loss to former Tennessee Agricultural Commissioner Charlie Hatcher on Thursday in a closely watched primary election. The two were vying for Tennessee's recently redrawn fifth congressional district. Hatcher, who was endorsed by Republican Governor Bill Lee, won 53% to 47%.

Ahead of 2028, Newsom allies want his supporters to pitch the governor in family chats, Facebook groups, alumni networks, or wherever a personal relationship can be leveraged for political gain. That's according to new guidance sent to volunteers this week by Newsom's federal political action committee, Campaign for Democracy.
An email invited activists to sign up for training programs that would teach them how to make effective political pitches into places where politics isn't typically found, which the email said is, quote, the point.
The supporters themselves are in a much better position to convince someone to support the governor than the campaign is. But critics say that forcing politics into relationships will likely just harm most communal and family ties.
