President Donald Trump says the US will not attack Iran before next month's midterm elections. In a Truth Social post on Thursday, the president said the two countries are having, quote, productive conversations and that the blockade on Iran will remain in full force. Early this morning, oil prices spiked 5% to $105 a barrel and stocks fell on reports that the president was considering renewing large scale attacks against the Islamic Republic. But the president says oil is moving through the Strait of Hormuz in record numbers.

One of the Cornell 7 fraternity brothers is fighting to remove New York Attorney General Leticia James from the case. New York's Democrat Governor Cathy Hokel appointed James as Special Prosecutor last week to investigate the allegations of a former female student identified only as Jane Doe. But in a petition filed Wednesday, one student named in the lawsuit argues that James has already quote, unequivocally demonstrated a bias and presumption of guilt against the defendants. The petition points to a social media post from James' office shared just days before the appointment, which called the accuser's ordeal horrific and offered her support. All seven defendants have denied the allegations and no criminal charges have been filed.

Tonight is the first debate in the Michigan Senate race between Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed. Associate producer Brooke Morgato has the story.

The debate is seen by many insiders as a major test for far left Democrat nominee Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive who has spent months trying to reassure moderates, Jewish voters and other skeptical members of the Democratic coalition. Former GOP Congressman Mike Rogers, the Republican nominee, is expected to hit El-Sayed on his support for Medicare for All and the Green New Deal, which are unpopular with many voters in the swing state. In a Monday interview on Fox News, El-Sayed gave a preview of tonight's debate, brushing off questions about his ties to Hamas sympathizer and far left streamer Hassan Piker, instead pivoting to the economy and rising costs he pins on President Trump. El-Sayed is leading in most polls and a Fox News poll released last week has him ahead of Rogers 50 to 49 A Michigan Democratic strategist who is not backing El-Sayed told USA Today that, in his assessment, quote, if Abdul doesn't screw up, you have to call him the favorite in this race.
