Lindsay Clancy's attorney asked President Trump for a pardon. Five people are dead following an Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami. And Canada announces new trade war tariffs on over $20 billion of American goods. I'm Daily Wire executive editor John Bickley with Georgia Howe. It's Tuesday, September 8th. This is Evening Wire.

Georgia Howe (1:23)

Lindsay Clancy's defense attorney is asking President Trump pardon his client after a Massachusetts jury deadlocked over whether she was criminally responsible for the fatal strangling of her three young children. In an interview with Good Morning America that aired today, Kevin Ruddington made an unusual request to the White House.

SPEAKER_6 (1:41)

I'd like to say that perhaps Donald Trump, who felt compelled to speak out about this case, may very well, Mr. President, I would hope that you would consider this young lady, the type of person she is, what she's been through, and consider a pardon.

The Iranian president has vowed to keep fighting as the Saudi Arabians suffer an attack from the Houthi terror group. Foreign affairs reporter Cassie Akiva has the latest.

Cassie Akiva (2:06)

Oil prices are nearing $100 a barrel as conflict in the Middle East threatens energy supplies across the region. Iran-backed Houthis launch a major attack on southern Saudi Arabia, wounding dozens of civilians and hitting energy facilities. Fires temporarily disrupted some operations, according to the Saudi government. And Iranian president Masoud Pesikshen vowed that Tehran will continue fighting against the US and Israeli aggression, saying that Iran will, quote, continue this resistance with full strength until the aggressors are brought to complete regret. Pesikshen added that Iran has always opposed the war, but will continue defending itself and, quote, remain the guardian of the rights of the great Iranian nation.

An Amazon cargo plane crash in Miami has left five dead. The plane, a 32-year-old Boeing 767, originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico, before attempting to land at Miami International Airport. Early reports indicate that the pilots landed halfway down the runway and were unable to stop. The plane then traveled around 1300 feet past the end of the runway, exiting airport property and striking multiple vehicles. The National Transportation Safety Board has stated that both pilots, the only souls on board, survived the crash. Five individuals on the ground, however, were killed. Five more are critically injured. The full cause of the crash is still under investigation.

New Canadian tariffs on roughly $20 billion in American goods took effect today. Associate producer and Canadian correspondent, Wyatt Harms, says more.

Wyatt Harms (3:34)

This is the latest escalation in a trade war between the two longtime allies, with tariffs hitting US clothing, cheese and raw materials, and mirroring the tariffs Trump imposed on Canada last month after trade talks collapsed. President Trump is projecting strength on social media, posting on Truth Social hours after the tariffs, quote, no more selling bombardier in the United States. He then accused Canada of exploiting US banks and companies, and urged consumers to buy American. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has vowed to continue to match any US tariff with his own, signaling no end to the trade war.

A Sunday afternoon hike through the clouds turned into an absolute nightmare in Russia's North Caucasus mountains and a colossal avalanche roared down Mount Mzurgi, killing at least 11 climbers and leaving six others missing. The deadly mountain wall of ice, snow and debris slammed into a group of 33 mountaineers at about 5 p.m. local time. Shocking footage captured the exact moment a hanging glacier appeared to give way. By Monday morning, 10 survivors had scrambled down on their own power, while six wounded victims were airlifted to nearby hospitals. More than 50 rescuers backed by helicopters were frantically probing the snow for the missing six souls. However, officials warned that brutal drain and a looming threat of secondary slides are severely crippling the operation.
