Hello, everyone, and welcome to The Filmcast, a podcast about movies.

I'm David Chen, and I can't wait to watch the new Resident Evil movie featuring my favorite characters from the game, including Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, and Leon Kennedy. Right, guys?

Devindra Hardawar (0:36)

Yeah.

David Chen (0:36)

Right? Joining me today is Devindra Hardawar.

Devindra Hardawar (0:42)

Four stars.

David Chen (0:46)

And Jeff Cannata.

Jeff Cannata (0:48)

This video game movie adaptation blitz is out of control, you guys.

A Resident Evil movie and a Katamari Damacy movie in the same film? It's too much.

Devindra Hardawar (1:03)

Spoilers. Spoilers.

David Chen (1:06)

Those are vague and oblique references to the fact that today of the podcast, we're going to be reviewing Zach Cregger's new movie, his fourth film, mind you, Resident Evil.

And it should be a fun time. Talk about the movie, talk about how it compares to the game, if at all. Of course, before that, we got some what we've been watching for you and a few weekly plugs.

Jeff Cannata (1:27)

By the way, my favorite thing, Dave, is that you played the games to prepare yourself for this movie.

David Chen (1:34)

I know. I mean, it was so helpful.

Jeff Cannata (1:37)

I got no end of delight out of that effort.

David Chen (1:43)

Well, you know, you left, but it legitimately did help me understand a lot of references in the game.

Jeff Cannata (1:49)

This movie is in the movie. I should say. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You got to get that. I hope you finish the games because you would be lost without it.

David Chen (1:59)

OK. I mean, we'll talk about it. We'll talk about it. But there's many things that I would not have understood if I hadn't played the games. So but that's what's so great about the movie, guys. You don't need to have played the games. You know, that's what's wonderful. Talk about it. Yeah.

Jeff Cannata (2:12)

It just made me laugh.

David Chen (2:13)

Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. And you know, I live for nothing else to do that, Jeff. So okay, before we get to what we've been watching though, got a couple of things to mention.

First of all, Jeff Cannata is what we've been watching segment last week, generated quite a bit of emails to slashfilmcast.gmail.com.

Devindra Hardawar (2:34)

Wow. Sad to miss it.

David Chen (2:36)

During his, what we've been watching segment, he talked about Calling From Accounts, a show that he really enjoys, that's airing on Paramount Plus. Many people wrote in to point out that it is, in fact, the last season of Calling From Accounts.

Jeff Cannata (2:50)

Yeah. Heartbreaker. I know it's their decision. It wasn't canceled or anything. It was the creator's decision to stop after three. Still breaks my heart because I love the show very, very much.

Devindra Hardawar (2:59)

I got good news for you though, Jeff. Are you aware Patrick Burmel is starring in a new series on your favorite network?

Jeff Cannata (3:04)

I mean, I can't not be aware. His face is the giant thick wallpaper I see when I boot up my Apple TV.

Devindra Hardawar (3:10)

I don't see that at all.

David Chen (3:13)

But yeah, Last Scene is the name of the show that Devindra is referring to. And many people also said, hey, if you like Patrick Burmel, make sure you check out Last Scene. It's the thing that he's in.

Devindra Hardawar (3:23)

So thank you for all those emails.

David Chen (3:24)

Yep, go ahead.

Devindra Hardawar (3:25)

Jeff, you really, you guys will never watch this because also you're not into horror in the same way, but Patrick Burmel plays the awful father in the TV series Evil. So it's very weird, very weird for me to see him in like romantic comedy roles sort of and also this romantic role he's going in. Just putting that out there.

Jeff Cannata (3:43)

That's interesting.

Devindra Hardawar (3:44)

Yeah.

David Chen (3:45)

Other thing we got a lot of email about is Jeff mentioning watching Taskmaster on Hulu. I'm sorry, on YouTube, I should say. Many people were wanting to say, by the way, Taskmaster is also available on Hulu.

And I guess the scenario that that would be useful in is if you have a Hulu subscription and you don't want to watch YouTube ads, you can watch it on Hulu. So just wanted people to know about that. But thank you for all.

Jeff Cannata (4:11)

No, go ahead.

David Chen (4:11)

No, no, that's it. Go ahead.

Jeff Cannata (4:12)

Well, I had a thought about Taskmaster and since you brought it up, I'm going to mention it. I always say I could talk about Taskmaster every episode. And I've gotten messages from people like, you should talk about Taskmaster every episode. And I'm like, I might. Anyway, I had a thought about Taskmaster this week as I was enjoying yet another episode of Season 22
