Hmm, let's see.

I'll pull the trash can. Do you think you can take out the recycling?

SPEAKER_3 (1:27)

I can try.

SPEAKER_2 (1:28)

Here's the handle.

SPEAKER_3 (1:30)

Oh, I think it's a little big for me.

SPEAKER_2 (1:34)

Whoa, okay. You're right. It is a really tall trash can, nearly as tall as you are.

SPEAKER_3 (1:41)

Hey guys, can I come outside too?

SPEAKER_2 (1:44)

Hey, TJ.

Sure, want to help Tory take out the recycling? It's too big for her alone, but maybe together, you'll be able to pull it down the driveway to the curb.

SPEAKER_3 (1:54)

Sure. I'd love to help. Tory, let's try pulling it together. Sounds good. Hey, that's perfect. It's just the right size for the two of us together.

Great.

SPEAKER_2 (2:06)

Let's head down the driveway.

SPEAKER_3 (2:09)

Whoa, Dad. It's so dark outside.

Does that mean it's almost bedtime?

SPEAKER_2 (2:15)

Not exactly, but this time of year, the sun does start going down a bit earlier. Soon it will be getting darker sooner.

SPEAKER_3 (2:23)

It's so dark out here. Not a bit of light.

SPEAKER_2 (2:28)

I don't know about that, TJ.

Look around you. The sun might be going down, but... What do you notice?

SPEAKER_3 (2:36)

Lights. TJ, look around. There's little lights coming on all over the neighborhood.

Oh, I see the streetlights just popped on. They're so bright in the dark. I don't think I've even noticed that those lights were there during the day.

SPEAKER_2 (2:53)

That's true. It's easier to see the lights above you when it's dark outside.

What other lights do you see?

SPEAKER_3 (3:01)

I see some pathway lights. Look, they're lighting up the path around the house to the backyard.

SPEAKER_2 (3:07)

That's right. I timed them to come on just when it starts getting dark.

What else do you see?

SPEAKER_3 (3:14)

I don't know, Dad. Are there more lights to see?

SPEAKER_2 (3:18)

There sure are. Lights shine more brightly when it's dark. Here, let's put the trash cans down at the curb.

Now, come in the garage. I think we might be headed for an adventure.

SPEAKER_3 (3:33)

An adventure? In the dark?

SPEAKER_2 (3:35)

Maybe. Come here for just a moment. I want to show you something.

Hey honey, I want to show the kids something in the neighborhood. Okay if we go for a quick walk?

SPEAKER_1 (3:46)

Of course you three. Dinner's already cleaned up. Have fun. And here.

Bring a flashlight with you. It's getting dark out there.

SPEAKER_2 (3:56)

Great. Let's go kids.

Okay kids, here. Each of you take a flashlight.

SPEAKER_1 (4:12)

Click.

SPEAKER_3 (4:12)

Mine's on. Mine too.

SPEAKER_2 (4:15)

Okay.

Let's point them at the sidewalks so that we can see where our feet are going. It's just starting to get dark out, but as it gets darker, we'll need these lights more and more.

SPEAKER_3 (4:28)

Dad, what did you want to show us?

SPEAKER_2 (4:31)

Let's just take a little walk through the neighborhood and notice the lights we can see in the dark that we might not be able to see during the day when it's light outside.

SPEAKER_3 (4:40)

Hmm, looking for lights? Hey guys, look. What do you see, TJ?

Mr. and Mrs. Wiseman's back porch. They have little twinkling lights hanging above their patio. I never noticed those before. They remind me of Christmas lights a little bit.

SPEAKER_2 (4:59)

They do. They're beautiful.

SPEAKER_3 (5:03)

Dad, I see more lights, and they're ones I've never noticed before.

SPEAKER_2 (5:07)

Where, TJ?

SPEAKER_3 (5:09)

Up ahead. I think they're truck lights.

They're red and glowing on the street.

SPEAKER_2 (5:15)

You're right, TJ. That looks like Miss D.Livery's mail truck. Those lights on the back help her to drive her mail truck safely at night. Good eye.

All right, kids. I wanted us to pause right here.

SPEAKER_3 (5:31)

Why, Dad? What neighborhood lights do you see?

SPEAKER_2 (5:34)

Well, I don't know that I see any neighborhood lights, so much as I see some lights God has made. Look up.
