Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily internet culture podcast, bringing you the biggest stories from social media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays. I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the Australian youth digital media brand, Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll everyone. Have I recovered from being attacked by the biggest cockroach that I've ever seen, realizing that it actually did walk up my leg when I was editing the episode yesterday and saw it on video and it walked up my shoe, up my leg and onto my laptop?

No, I cannot say that I actually will ever recover from that, but thank you for all the kind messages.

I am still so unwell and he is still on the floor beside me. He's under the cup. I'm too scared to lift the cup up. Like I'm sure by now he's dead. I also stomped on him as we know, but like I'm too scared. Anyways, before I get into it, please remember to rate, review and subscribe. Please Spotify star rate us. It helps us so much. It helps us grow. Leave us an Apple review. Subscribe to us on YouTube. So many of you guys watch on YouTube and don't subscribe, so please subscribe. All right, the first story that I have for you guys today is Miley Cyrus is clapping back at criticism of her live performance. So Miley Cyrus is responding to backlash after footage of her recent live performances at the Hollywood Bowl in LA started circulating online, with some fans accusing her of not putting enough effort into these shows. So during her first show, clips of Miley performing some of her biggest hits like Wrecking Ball, The Climb and Party in the USA went viral. And there were three main criticisms. First, that she wasn't singing a lot of the lyrics herself. Rather, she was holding the mic up to the crowd for a lot of the performance so they could sing her songs. Second, people felt like her stage presence was just like too chill. It was kind of similar criticism to what Justin Bieber was getting with Coachella. I'm not saying that this was anywhere as chill, quote unquote, as Justin Bieber's Coachella performance. But that has been a comparison here. And three, people were also questioning her set list. Apparently, she focused a lot on recent music, which does make sense for a new concert, for a recent concert, and people wanted more of her old stuff. I guess, given she doesn't perform live very much anymore, so people were hoping for the price that they paid for the tickets, that they would get some of that or more of that old stuff. So as these videos were going viral, those in attendance started making their own videos about their experiences. Two videos by fans, one by Tyler Wells and one by Eric David have gone relatively viral and have really amplified this conversation.

I walked away from that show not necessarily feeling fulfilled. I walked away feeling kind of sad for her. I felt like the whole show was her being transparent, totally transparent about how performing does not feel the same anymore after 20 years, which is very understandable. But it felt like one big kind of like reckoning with, do I love to do this anymore? Do I love to perform? She has said that these two nights at the Hollywood Bowl, both of which are sold out, are her test runs to kind of see if she wants to continue performing. And that's a very bizarre place for the audience to be in. And she would outsource to the crowd to sing for her. And even kind of acknowledged at one point before partying in the USA, saying something like, you know, when a song has become so big that you don't even have to sing it at all yourself, the crowd can just do it for you. Watch this. We want to hear you sing it with us. We want you to be a part of it. We don't want this detachment.

I called her venue, closed her house, so she could go straight home. All of the things that she wanted, she got. But us as the fans that have been growing up with her, that her music has changed our lives, has helped us heal, like the her song, Flowers. I didn't even get to see that perform because I left early. She may be sending 20 to 30 minutes total out of a two hour show.
