And we're back, and I'm back. This is Keep It!, I'm Louis Virtel.

Nina Parker (0:09)

I'm Nina Parker, welcome back.

Louis Virtel (0:10)

I am thrilled to be back. I just want to say, Mariah Smith last week on this podcast was fabulous.

Nina Parker (0:15)

Well, you're wearing the outfit she had on almost, you're in your denim.

Louis Virtel (0:18)

First of all, I just want to say that it looks like I'm really supporting the movie Digger right now. And I will say, I'm not giving away my opinions on that movie, we will discuss it today. But a friend of mine went to Montana for a week and became obsessed with cowboy shit. He was like, let's go buy you some stuff. And I said, what if we didn't?

And then we went and it turns out, once you're in the store, it's very persuasive. Really? Yeah.

Nina Parker (0:40)

Cowboy chic is in right now.

Louis Virtel (0:41)

Yeah.

Nina Parker (0:42)

I love that they went to Montana and were like, and you need to also be a part of my obsession.

Louis Virtel (0:45)

And I apparently am malleable. I had no idea.

Nina Parker (0:47)

Did you buy any boots?

Louis Virtel (0:48)

Yes.

Nina Parker (0:49)

You did.

Louis Virtel (0:49)

Well, get this, I find boots very applicable to the world.

Nina Parker (0:53)

They look uncomfortable though.

Louis Virtel (0:55)

But when you are in this universe where we all wear giant baggy jeans, they kind of just fit everywhere.

Nina Parker (0:59)

Are you wearing them now?

Louis Virtel (1:00)

No, I'm not.

Nina Parker (1:01)

Okay. See, now I'm disappointed. I want to see the boots.

Louis Virtel (1:03)

I don't know why I wouldn't be wearing them right now.

Nina Parker (1:05)

It matches the whole fit. Louis, let's make this a continuation. You have to make it a whole thing.

Louis Virtel (1:10)

Oh, yeah. No, I'll have like lariats and lasso coming up.

Nina Parker (1:13)

And then the hat next?

Louis Virtel (1:14)

Oh, I have the hat.

Nina Parker (1:15)

You do?

Louis Virtel (1:16)

Yes.

Nina Parker (1:16)

I'm very impressed with this.

Louis Virtel (1:18)

I have to tell you, though, it doesn't really look like I belong in, shall we say, cowboy culture. I look like somebody who comes in last place at the World Series of Poker. You know that vibe?

Nina Parker (1:28)

I love it. Who let him in? But do you really want to blend in? I don't think you do.

Louis Virtel (1:32)

No.

Nina Parker (1:32)

Exactly.

Louis Virtel (1:33)

I'm going to go ahead and suggest I don't blend in.

Nina Parker (1:35)

But maybe we'll go on a little cowboy shopping trip.

Louis Virtel (1:37)

No, you look fabulous in it.

Nina Parker (1:39)

I don't know if I've ever, I mean, I've done it for parties. I don't think I've ever really worn cowboy gear.

Louis Virtel (1:44)

Yeah, I look like a yokel. I look like a kid in Power of the Dog who doesn't fit in, if you know what I mean.

Nina Parker (1:52)

I feel like the thing about cowboys is they feel very coordinated and like smooth and they can ride a horse and do a lasso. And I trip over my own two feet. So I just feel like-

Louis Virtel (2:02)

Really, you think that?

Nina Parker (2:03)

I know that, I'm clumsy. I already have nine toenails.

Louis Virtel (2:07)

That's true.

Nina Parker (2:07)

You know what I mean? I'm a very clumsy person. I don't feel like you can be clumsy in cowboy.

Louis Virtel (2:11)

I also think like, yeah, cowboys always have like a sleek, snatched look. And that's also why I love the military.

Nina Parker (2:19)

Now we're going somewhere.

Louis Virtel (2:21)

That's my first take of the episode, but hold on.

Nina Parker (2:23)

We've got a lot of things to discuss.

Louis Virtel (2:24)

Here we go.

I know you look at me and you think, that's Louis. Anyway, we have a lot of fun stuff to get to this episode. We'll be sharing our thoughts in the new Tom Cruise movie, Digger and the Robert Pattinson movie, Primetime. But before we get into movies, let's talk about music specifically. Tinashe's new album, Popstar, it debuted at number six on the Billboard 200 this week, which is frankly miraculous for Tinashe. No shade to Tinashe. I'm thrilled for Tinashe. But it's her first ever top 10 album, Pitchfork rated it a 9 and called it the best pop album of the year. First of all, let me just say, I have to be thankful for Pitchfork because there are so few grading rubrics in arts criticism that matter anymore. And I have to say, when I hear that they've given something a 9 and not even a 10, I'm like, oh, I have to pay attention, you know?
