Knocked Loose donated $8,000 to help a woman who was paralyzed after falling from a tree at one of their festival sets. The new Pornographers are touring the US without three of their members after visa delays left them stuck in Canada. Frontman AC. Newman said the trio's applications have been stuck since February despite paying for expedited processing that used to take about five days. He called the process Kafka-esque and noted it's a big chunk of the band missing from the stage. The tour is continuing anyway, with Newman and the band's US-based members filling out the line-up.
Taylor Swift's legal team has filed to dismiss the trademark lawsuit over The Life of a Showgirl, brought by a Las Vegas performer who says the title infringes on her own show's trademark. Swift's lawyers are arguing that the album is a protected, expressive work under the First Amendment and that nobody would confuse a pop album with a cabaret act. The performer's side says Swift gave up that protection the moment she tried to trademark the phrase herself. No trial date has been set, but a hearing is expected in early October.
And finally, Rick Wakeman of Yes played a full piano concert this week for an audience of 150 rescued moon bears at a sanctuary in Vietnam. He performed original compositions on a grand piano to help raise awareness about bile farming, which is still one of the largest illegal animal trades in East Asia. Safe to say those bears got a better front row experience than most human audiences. Prague Rocks Reach really does know no bounds.
