It's Monday, June 29th, 2026 I'm Bryan Ibb and here are your music headlines for today. The BET Awards 2026, hosted by Drusky, took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. Teyana Taylor and Clipse were the biggest winners, each taking home three awards. The ceremony featured numerous performances, including tributes to D'Angelo and Lauryn Hill, who received the Living Legend Icon Award. Other winners included Dochi, featuring SZA for Girl Get Up, Kehlani for Folded and Teyana Taylor for both Video Director of the Year and Best Actress. Taylor also received the Icon of the Year Award, presented by Janet Jackson.
Katy Perry's new single, Watch It Burn, topped Billboard's New Music Bowl, receiving 27% of the vote. The song, which features Perry expressing her anger and frustration, was released alongside a fiery music video. This is Perry's follow-up to Band-Aids, released in November 2025 Olivia Rodrigo's album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, spends a second week and number one on the Billboard 200 chart with 180,000 equivalent album units. The album also holds the top spot on top streaming albums and top album sales. This marks Rodrigo's second album to spend multiple weeks at number one following her debut album, Sour. Bryan Adams will release a new song titled, The 51st State on July 1st, Canada Day. The song, which Adams previewed on social media, centers on Canadian identity and pushes back against the idea of Canada becoming part of the US. The B-52s had to cancel their performance at the Retro-C TROP Music Festival in Tilliloy, France due to a severe storm and a tornado. The storm destroyed much of the band's equipment, including keyboards, mic stands, laptop sound equipment, and scaffolding. The festival is also forced to cancel its final day due to the storm. Jolin Tsai's album Pleasure won Album of the Year and Best Mandarin Female Singer at the 37th Golden Melody Awards. Chang Chen-yue won Best Mandarin Album, Best Mandarin Male Singer and Best Composer for Talk with Feelings. Other notable winners include Ricky Sio, Pia Wubeya and Outlet Drift.
Muse has released their 10th album, The Wow Signal, featuring themes of loneliness and the search for connection. The album features a blend of genres, including rock, electronic and alternative, with a focus on epic and grandiose soundscapes. The album also features many collaborations, including a feature from Ellie Golding on the track, Hush. Lorde reflects on the one year anniversary of her album, Virgin, in a new article with Rolling Stone. Lorde shares that she struggled with a breakup, an eating disorder and a diagnosis of premenstrual dysphoric disorder during the album's creation. He also shares that she released 49 demos from the album on her website, calling them x-rays of the album.
Ice Nine Kills released a new single, Play Dead, to celebrate Dead by Daylight's 10th anniversary. The song, a collaboration with the horror game franchise, was announced during their anniversary livestream and features Devin Sawa, Percy Fox and Tony Hawk. The band worked closely with Dead by Daylight's composer and creatives to ensure the song captured the game's chaotic and eerie energy. And finally, how do you like these apples? Matt Damon debuted a rap alter ego, Nomad, in a water.org campaign video to promote the Get Blue initiative. The campaign, which includes partnerships with brands like Gap, Starbucks and Amazon, aims to raise awareness and funds for clean water access. In an interview, Damon assures, quote, obviously Kendrick has nothing to worry about. It's Monday, let's take a look at the top five singles on the Billboard chart. Number five, Be Her by Ella Langley. Number four, Drop Dead by Olivia Rodrigo. Number three, Stupid Song by Olivia Rodrigo. Number two, Choosin Texas by Ella Langley.
