The 2026 FIFA World Cup final halftime show in New Jersey was a pop extravaganza featuring Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber, Shakira and more. The 11-minute spectacle included a mix of music, visuals and surprise appearances, leaving a lasting impression with its over-the-top production and diverse lineup. Shakira and Burna Boy delivered a crowd pleasing performance of Die Die, the official World Cup song. The finale, led by the PS22 chorus and Chris Martin, included a wide array of performers and a fireworks display, ending the show with a message of love and unity. Post Malone performed a three-song medley at the closing ceremony, debuting a new song titled Chrome Heartbreaker. He also performed Wow and Sunflower with Sway Lee.
Morgan Wallen announced his new single, Been By Now, during his Baltimore concert, revealing it will be released on July 24th. The song, about a stagnant relationship, is his first new release since his 2025 album, I'm the Problem. Wallen is currently on his Still the Problem tour. L7 bassist Jennifer Finch passed away at 59 after a battle with brain cancer. Finch was a founding member of the band, contributing to seven studio albums and reuniting with them in 2014 In a social media post, the band shared, quote, Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms and the impact she made on music, art, and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured. Jim Gilstrap, a versatile tenor known for his work with Stevie Wonder and his own R&B hits, passed away at 79 Gilstrap's career spanned over five decades, during which he lent his voice to numerous iconic songs and artists. He is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren.
Freddy Cannon, a rock and roll icon known for hits like Palisades Park and Tallahassee Lassie, passed away at 89 Cannon, who is sometimes billed as Freddy Boom Boom Cannon, was celebrated for his upbeat performances and songwriting contributions. He held the record for the most appearances on American Bandstand and continued to work on music until his recent hospitalization. Future achieves his 12th and number one album on the Billboard 200 chart with The Real Me, debuting atop the July 25th dated list. The album earned 131,000 equivalent album units, primarily driven by streaming. The Rolling Stones extend their record for the most top tens with Foreign Tongues debuting at number seven, marking their 39th top ten. Ariana Grande premiered a teaser for upcoming music video for Pedals during her Eternal Sunshine tour in Brooklyn. The black and white video directed by Christian Breslauer features a Hollywood theme with Grande rehearsing in a vintage studio setting. Pedals will be the second single from Grande's upcoming album following Hate That I Made You Love Me. Skrape, a 2000s new metal band, is officially returning under the new name Skrapegoat. The change comes after legal issues arose regarding the use of the original name. The band, led by singer Billy Keaton, is working on new music and plans to release it soon.
A 40-year-old rehearsal tape of Guns N Roses has surfaced online featuring early versions of songs from their debut album, Appetite for Destruction. The recording, likely made at the Gardner Studio in 1986, includes tracks like Night Train and Rocket Queen. The tape was previously hoarded by members of the GNR community, but has now been shared publicly.
And finally, Mattel has released a new line of dolls inspired by the Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters. The collection includes singing dolls of the Huntrix Girls and Saja Boy's leader, Jinu, dressed in their iconic outfits from the movie. The dolls have been popular with fans, with one quickly becoming a top selling toy on Amazon.
