Hey, everybody, it is Tuesday, September 29th. You're listening to the Mo News podcast. I'm Moshe Oinounou.
Jill Wagner (0:08)
And I'm Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts.
Mosheh Oinounou (0:12)
And we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to. Quick heads up, we are doing a special Mo News workshop tonight on the national debt, which recently surpassed $40 trillion, as we told you on this podcast. But many of you have questions on how we got there, how concerned we should be, how much further we are going to go into debt, and whether Democrats or Republicans are ever going to take the debt seriously with the ramifications down the road for the US. This is a Mo News premium workshop. It's available for you premium members, if you're a premium member.
Look to your email inbox. It might be in the spam folder, but you have an invite with a Zoom link for tonight. If you can't make it at 8 p.m. Eastern tonight, it will be available to you afterwards. But all the more reason to join premium for workshops like this, and so you can check out all those details over at mo.news.premium, where you then go to the member dashboard and you can RSVP for tonight's workshop.

Are lawmakers going to do anything about it?
I don't know, Mosheh. They haven't yet.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:08)
Not yet, not until we're really, I don't know, 50 trillion in debt, 60 trillion in debt. I mean, who knows? The thing that we come to oftentimes on this podcast, Jill, is that Congress, unless their back is against the wall, which typically comes from the markets, which we have been watching the bond market of late, they don't do much.
So, we'll see what comes of all of it in the meantime. In later news, today is National Coffee Day.
Jill Wagner (1:32)
Well, that's every day in my house, but happy National Coffee Day to everybody out there. I'm guessing many of you guys are currently drinking coffee as you listen to this podcast.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:43)
And if you're not or you haven't gotten your order yet, know that there are a number of discounts today. Dunkin has a free medium hotter iced coffee with a purchase in the Dunkin app today. Also discounts over at Starbucks, Krispy Kreme, Dairy Queen, never had Dairy Queen coffee, but maybe today is the day to check it out. Paris Baguette, if you know that, 7-Eleven, Hardee's, Carl's Jr. A whole bunch of coffee joints or places that serve coffee. Discounts for you on this day. Check it out.

All right, time for the headlines, starting with disturbing allegations of a gang rape at Cornell University. The local district attorney is now re-opening this case, which dates back to 2024
Mosheh Oinounou (2:21)
Yeah, this story has really blown up in the past 48 hours due to a new lawsuit. We'll tell you about that and what we know about what took place two years ago, what's taking place now, what the university is saying, what the DA is saying, what the Fraternity brothers who are alleged to have committed the assault are saying, and what comes next.
Jill Wagner (2:41)
To politics, 35 days until the midterms, Senate Republicans are making a final push as they try to pass some bills that they can campaign on.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:49)
Yeah, is it going to be too little, too late? Or can they prove to voters, no, no, no, give us another shot at keeping the majority here. It comes as we're seeing increasing signs in very traditionally red states that Republicans are concerned and have to spend a lot of money to save senators in places like Kansas. We'll tell you about it.
Jill Wagner (3:08)
A big meeting today at the White House about AI, President Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and AI leaders will meet. What is on the agenda?
Mosheh Oinounou (3:18)
You must mean SI leaders, Jill. Trump's calling it super intelligence, at least he's been trying to rebrand it.
We'll tell you what could come out of that meeting.
Jill Wagner (3:26)
SpaceX's supersized Starship launched into orbit for the first time. Why the trip ended a bit early and doesn't matter. And AI is eliminating busy work. But now that it's disappearing, some companies are simulating it. Apparently, we need busy work. We'll explain. And America's allies are vacationing elsewhere. The big hit to the tourism industry. And Mosheh is on the stay in history.
All right, starting with a sexual assault case, it's getting a lot of attention at Cornell. A trigger warning here. The allegations are pretty graphic, especially if you are listening with young kids, maybe in the car you might want to skip ahead. All right, a New York State District Attorney is reopening a criminal investigation into an alleged sexual assault at a Cornell University fraternity that dates back to 2024
