Hey, everybody, it is Thursday, September 17th. You're listening to the Mo News Podcast. I'm Moshe Oinounou.
Jill Wagner (0:08)
And I am Jill Wagner. This is the place where we bring you just the facts.
Mosheh Oinounou (0:12)
And where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to on this Constitution Day here in the US. It's Constitution Day and Citizenship Day, commemorating the signing of the US Constitution in 1787
Jill Wagner (0:27)
And from 1787 to 2026, Moshe, we've got some new dictionary words to talk about. Merriam-Webster, America's oldest dictionary publisher, added 1,400 new words this year, and then dictionary.com added nearly 6,000 new words to its website. So it's all meant to reflect the new words and meanings that have caught on.
Some of Merriam-Webster's include vibe coding or using AI to generate computer code. Parasocial, which describes a one-sided emotional connection.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:01)
Jill, that's one way to describe how people in this podcast audience or if you listen to other podcasters, might feel about those podcasters even though for the most part, we haven't met like 99 percent of you.
Jill Wagner (1:11)
Then there's the term like cuffing season, when single people look for a short-term partner for the colder months.
Mosheh Oinounou (1:18)
Yeah, we're entering cuffing season. Other words they added, shapewear, looks maxing, meme coin, superfood as in like salmon, broccoli, blueberries.
So a whole variety of terms they've put out there. Sunday Scaries, officially in the dictionary now, Jill, goaded like the greatest of all time, and IYKYK better known as if you know, you know. All now part of the dictionary, which I guess Jill means when we play Scrabble, you can now, if you have IYKYK, that should work, right?
Jill Wagner (1:58)
Our new podcast tagline, it's the goaded news podcast, IYKYK.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:05)
For cuffing season.
Jill Wagner (2:08)
Get cozy.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:09)
Get cozy with your pair of social relationship with me and Jill.
Jill Wagner (2:13)
Okay, to the headline, starting in DC, the House is officially on vacation. House Speaker Mike Johnson telling his members, go home and meet with voters ahead of the midterms.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:23)
Yeah, desperately. They desperately want to meet with voters and hope that they can shift what appears to be what could be a pretty good fall for Democrats. So we'll take a look at what Congress has done and what they haven't done. In particular, Jill, we were talking a lot about AI in recent days. It doesn't look like Congress is going to do much on that, at least not before midterms.
Jill Wagner (2:43)
To the economy, the Fed raising interest rates for the first time in three years. What that means for everything from your credit card loans to mortgage rates to car loans.
Mosheh Oinounou (2:53)
Kevin Warsh, line one, it's the president. He'd like to have a word with you.
Jill Wagner (2:59)
Yes, remember, this was the president's handpicked person to run the Fed, hoping that he would cut interest rates. A tragedy unfolding on live television, three people killed in Los Angeles when a TV news helicopter crashed while covering a bus collision. In Media News, 60 Minutes scores an interview with Patrick Clancy.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:18)
We'll do a ratings reality check that has gotten some buzz here, Jill, and I have some thoughts, given, I don't know, the decade I spent over there at CBS.
Jill Wagner (3:28)
Mosheh's thoughts, guys. Anyone surprised on this story?
Mosheh Oinounou (3:31)
Most stories, most stories have thoughts.
Jill Wagner (3:34)
Particularly one that involves 60 Minutes. You get a little bee in your bonnet, as some people would say, about this show.
Mosheh Oinounou (3:43)
Some people don't know what they're talking about. I'll try to clarify. Then we'll have the latest developments in the Ed Sheeran, Macklemore, Robert Kraft concert tour, controversy, all the bands dropping out, now the multi-million dollar donations to humanitarian causes, including the Palestinian cause, the what Macklemore challenged Robert Kraft to do, and what we're learning about how all of this unfolded behind the scenes, with one significant 40-minute phone call to Ed Sheeran.
Jill Wagner (4:08)
Canada is joining the EU despite a major ocean, separating it from the European continent, how that might work, to sports trends. Girls, flag football is the fastest growing high school sport, probably not a surprise to a lot of parents out there. And finally, New York City is getting some new public bathrooms, and they will automatically open the door after 10 minutes.
Mosheh Oinounou (4:35)
Yeah, as the expression goes, shit or get off the pot, folks.
