Let's get into it. Coinbase just launched fixed rate Bitcoin backed USDC loans with guaranteed interest rates and set repayment dates. The product runs on Morpho Midnight protocol, settling on Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network. The Bitcoin backed credit market sits at 16 billion today, with projections to reach 130 billion by 2030 Coinbase is bringing DeFi infrastructure into mainstream consumer apps, competing with lenders like Ledin and SATL through on-chain execution and retail accessibility. CFTC Chair Michael Selig told the Treasury Market Conference that mass tokenization of real-world assets could reshape financial markets, enabling near-instant settlement in real-time collateral movement. The SEC granted an innovation exemption on September 17th for tokenized US stock trading on certain platforms.
Both agencies are advancing crypto frameworks under existing authority.
Zcash is up 10% to $1,625, but holders face a critical deadline. The November 5th NU7 upgrade will disable version 4 transactions, potentially freezing any ZEC left in the legacy sprout-shielded pool.
Co-founder Zuko Wilcox is urging holders to move ZEC from old wallets before mainnet activation. The upgrade also cuts block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. Canada's six largest banks, BMO, CIBC, National Bank, RBC, Scotiabank and TD announced a joint initiative to develop tokenized Canadian dollar deposits for faster interbank transfers. This follows Canada's September 10th regulatory clarity that tokenized deposits remain bank liabilities. BitMEX officially shut down trading and deposits at 4 a.m. UTC today after 11 years.
