Welcome to The TMZ Podcast. Happy Monday. Deven here with Courtney. Hello.

We're just gonna mostly be discussing the Christa Pike stuff. So obviously...

Courtney (0:20)

How was your weekend or anything? You were just getting into it?

Deven (0:22)

Right into it. It's been a morning.

Courtney (0:25)

Yeah.

Deven (0:26)

My weekend was... It was hot. It was extremely hot here, so I literally spent the whole weekend at the beach.

Courtney (0:32)

Yep.

Deven (0:33)

What about you?

Courtney (0:34)

Kind of same.

Deven (0:35)

Yeah.

Courtney (0:35)

Yeah.

Deven (0:36)

Yeah, nothing super fun to report.

Courtney (0:38)

No.

Deven (0:40)

Yeah. So Christa Pike, everyone knows about this story at this point. She's the woman out of Tennessee who was put on death row.

They did the two lethal injections, and it didn't work.

Courtney (0:56)

Wild.

Deven (0:57)

That in itself is like, I've just like, don't they, you would think they would have that figured out, no? Like down to like a science.

Courtney (1:04)

I mean, you would think so, but I guess how do you test?

Deven (1:08)

True. But it's also like, I feel like they have smart enough people. It's not me and you there. And it's like-

Courtney (1:13)

That's so rude. Well, I included myself in that as well.

Deven (1:15)

But it's like, you would imagine like, whatever they have the dosage correct with like how, you know, height and weight. And it should be like, okay, I just make sure it's a lot.

Courtney (1:25)

Yeah, but have you ever had surgery where they try to put you under and you don't go under right away?

Deven (1:29)

Oh, I went under immediately.

Courtney (1:30)

Oh, see, like I didn't. They had to like give me more. And they were like-

Why do you think that is? No, but it was also injected with high tolerance. Tolerance for drugs. Whatever. But I was like, and they're like, you're not sleeping yet?

Deven (1:42)

And I was like, Oh no, I was immediately under.

Courtney (1:47)

Yeah, two times, both times wrong.

Deven (1:49)

So yeah, so she's currently, I was like, what in the heck is that?

Courtney (1:54)

Oh, I just heard Harvey.

Deven (1:56)

All good, all good.

Courtney (1:57)

Yeah, I was like, wait, I can't escape them.

Deven (2:01)

So she was obviously has been hospitalized since, and is obviously critically ill after they failed this execution. I saw over the weekend, the guy that runs the jail resigned.

I'm seeing your mustache.

Courtney (2:18)

It looks like toothpaste. It's white. You got it. Oh, it's too late. Oh, god. I'm a fricking mess.

Deven (2:23)

So anyways, we have a clip as well.

Courtney (2:26)

Her attorney went on to an end.

Deven (2:28)

Let's hear what he has to say.

SPEAKER_3 (2:29)

What's her condition this morning?

It remains the same. She's still in the hospital on a ventilator, critically ill. We don't really know the prognosis yet and may not know for several days. Was she ever conscious after this? Has she been able to say anything? Not that I am aware of, no. They haven't let you in to see her?

No. And she is guarded. I'm not sure who may have seen her. I know I have not seen her.

Courtney (3:00)

So I wonder who has seen her. If the lawyer, if her attorney has no idea. Has anyone seen her besides the guards?

Deven (3:06)

I mean, usually they're only allowed to access to their attorneys, right? I don't even think of family and friends or whatnot. It's obviously just like a wild story.

Courtney (3:17)

It is, and it is sad. I know she's a murderer. I know she killed the 19-year-old in a brutal way.

Deven (3:22)

Yeah, I mean, that's my other thing, though, is you have to look at... I mean, she clearly was sentenced to death for a reason.

Courtney (3:31)

But it's weird that she was only one of the three people involved that was sentenced to death, Ro. I still find that weird. And I know that she was the one that did it.

Deven (3:39)

According to the University of Tennessee, the woman who they killed endured a lengthy beating and torture. So, I don't know. Apparently, she thought that this girl was into her boyfriend. It was one of those situations.

Courtney (3:53)

Yeah, she lured her into the woods.

Deven (3:54)

But at the end of the day, it's like in Tennessee, whether you believe or... I mean, a lot of people don't believe in the death penalty. But unfortunately, in that state, they have it. And she was sentenced to it. And now, yeah, I mean, it's horrific what obviously happened to her. And that, you know, it didn't work. And now she's, you know, in a hospital bed. But I mean, I'm not trying to be insensitive here, but it's like they were going to sentence her to death.
