Yeah, and if you thought August was hot, it turns out July was the hottest month on record in the United States ever, or at least from when record keeping started back in 1895

**Mosheh Oinounou** (1:32)
Right, when we had record keeping across the 48 continental states. I'm sure anecdotally, if we go back centuries, millennia, et cetera, there might have been hotter months. Nonetheless, officially in the record books here, July 2026, the hottest on record at least over the last 130 or so years here. Last month's average temperature in the lower 48 states, 76.89 degrees topping the previous record, 76.77 degrees. That was set back in July of 1936, 90 years ago. And that's about 3 1⁄2 degrees warmer than the average over the last century here.
A couple of factors here, including climate change, Jill.

Yeah, researchers say climate change makes extreme heat events more common and more intense, but they are also linking July to things like El Nino and also some weather patterns.

**Mosheh Oinounou** (2:23)
Yeah, you know, remember, every couple of years, we go through the El Nino and then La Nina patterns, and they have different effects. El Nino typically heats things up, and it's not just us, right? We've been covering the heat wave in Europe, where they have been seeing heat wave and record after record after record. Europe right now is the area on Earth, the continent with the fastest rising temperatures.

All right, let's get some headlines here. Another primary day in America, this time all eyes on Wisconsin, where Democrats will pick their candidate for governor.

The question today, question we've been asking now throughout the summer, will a Democratic socialist win? And in the second straight week that we see a swing state race, Wisconsin, another state that has gone both red and blue in recent years, can Democratic socialist Francesca Hong not only win the primary today, but can she actually win the general election this fall?

In health news, President Trump signs an executive order aimed at reducing the number of recommended childhood vaccines.

**Mosheh Oinounou** (3:22)
We'll tell you what changes and what doesn't in respect to yesterday's order.

At least 100 people confirmed dead after a powerful 7.4 earthquake hits Colombia.

This just weeks after that deadly earthquake in Venezuela killed more than 5,000 people.

Taylor Farms in the news again, recalling salsa and guacamole because of a salmonella outbreak.

Yeah, this one linked to jalapenos. And this, by the way, comes just as we've been talking about the cyclospora outbreak related to their lettuce.

It's being called life or death for a former Marine currently in detention in Russia.
