6AM (0:42)

Much love.

Bootleg Kev (0:43)

Let's get into the interview. Yo, Bootleg Kev Show. We got a special guest in here. My guy, 6AM, is back.

6AM (0:51)

What's the deal?

Bootleg Kev (0:52)

See you previewing a lot of new music. Is this your first album that's coming out? Your first 6AM solo project?

6AM (0:58)

You know, I was like halfway through a project before.

Bootleg Kev (1:03)

Yeah.

6AM (1:04)

And then I just, I figured out what syncing was.

Bootleg Kev (1:10)

So like getting like shows, like show music or movies and all that commercial music.

6AM (1:15)

At the time, I was going to put out the first album, like I got hit up by a company for syncing.

Bootleg Kev (1:23)

Yeah.

6AM (1:24)

So they offered me enough to make me question releasing the first album and to get the songs to them instead. You know what I mean?

Bootleg Kev (1:33)

So like if a syncing company hits you up, do you essentially are selling them your music?

6AM (1:38)

No. Well, that's what they try to do.

Bootleg Kev (1:40)

But you get publishing still?

6AM (1:41)

Yes.

Bootleg Kev (1:42)

Okay.

6AM (1:43)

So like we split 50-50 everything on the sync side. So whatever like sync brings in.

Bootleg Kev (1:52)

Right. Like if your song gets on a HBO show or something, or a Netflix show.

6AM (1:56)

But I still own the Masters, and everything else is 85-15, by the way.

Bootleg Kev (2:04)

Is it like the trade-off? Like they get the choice on when the music comes out? Yes, it is.

6AM (2:09)

So that kind of put my first album on hold a little bit, because they're trying to get licensing deals for songs and all that. But it actually ended up being a blessing, because at the end of the day, I kind of got more comfortable with who I am as an artist now. Right. Compared to how I was back then. So I feel like I'm by far doing the best music I've ever done.

Bootleg Kev (2:34)

Do you ever listen to your On Some Bullshit era of music and be like, oh, that's crazy? Because you're in a group.

6AM (2:42)

Yeah, not a lot of people remember that, but...

Bootleg Kev (2:46)

OSBS.

6AM (2:46)

Yeah, OSBS with Feze.

Bootleg Kev (2:48)

Do you ever listen to that music and be like, man, I've come a long way?

6AM (2:53)

I don't listen to it a lot. It's totally different. I don't really listen to it a lot. Feze doesn't listen to it either, but there'll be other people.

Bootleg Kev (3:00)

Shout out to him. He just like, didn't he just crack the LAPD for like a lawsuit?

6AM (3:03)

Like 10 million.

Bootleg Kev (3:04)

Yeah, like, Jesus, good for him.

6AM (3:06)

He's like up in the hills in fucking Japan somewhere, do fucking-

Bootleg Kev (3:09)

As he should be.

6AM (3:10)

Meditating.

Bootleg Kev (3:11)

Shit, I'll let the cops fuck me up. You know what I mean?

6AM (3:14)

I'm like, bro. That beat the fuck out of me, dog. He's like, fuck rap. You know what I mean?

Bootleg Kev (3:18)

Yeah, put me on life support.

6AM (3:19)

I'm like, I guess I'll go solo now. You know what I mean?

But it's like, bro, it's like, so like, at the end of the day, I'm happy that the album did not come out, because I'm more comfortable with who I am as an artist now.

Bootleg Kev (3:35)

You feel like this music best represents kind of like what you want to be as an artist.

6AM (3:38)

100%. 100%.

It's not just that, but I find the quality of the music is way better. These aren't just like microwave songs. We're not just like putting in a prompt. Like, it has never been like that, but what I'm saying is like, we're not just fucking putting in a prompt. Like, these songs each take like weeks to do. Like, we're fucking engineering every sound.
