Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for Five Things You Need To Know.
SPEAKER_2 (0:04)
Five, four, three, two, go, go, go, go, count down sequence one. Five things you need to know.
Greg (0:13)
You know, just saying that will probably get me in trouble.
That when the FCC went after you for violating the law and not having a difference of opinion, that was a whole different thing, you know. Anyway, free speech, you ever hear it? Sorry. He's spicy this morning, I like it, a little sass. So, each of us brings up different of the table for you. And it is brought to you by our friends. Thank you very much to Island Marine Services. And from repowering with a new Honda Outboard for your boat, to fiberglass repairs, they do it all. Check out islandmarineserviceme.com.
There it is, right there. Scott McMullen is the guy that starts this whole thing off.
Scott McMullen (1:02)
I think this one's going to be for basically Laura, Kayla, and myself, cat owners. 8 to 12 hours is the suggested amount of time that a cat can be left alone before it starts getting a little crazy.
Greg (1:16)
If it's not crazy going in.
Scott McMullen (1:17)
I thought it would be much longer. They have a reputation of being a very independent animal, but they said, those are the hours. Basically, a work day to a longer work day is the right amount of time.
Kayla (1:31)
I'm convinced that at some point, the cats know in their head that, okay, mom's not coming home for the night, and then they just go to sleep. And then they just lay there, and then I wake up and it's like, oh, you just left.
Greg (1:42)
I give our dog more credit than Valerie does. Well, she'll be upset. No, she's not, she's a dog. I get it, she's gonna be, but she's gonna survive, because they always do. They always do.
Don't mistreat them. Don't leave them for too long a period. But, you know, if we want to go out for dinner, she's fine.
Kelly (1:57)
But don't they say that dogs do not know, they don't have a sense of time, you know? So they leave, they have no sense of routine and time, and as far as they know, you're not coming back.
Greg (2:06)
How do they know that? Tell me how a human being knows what a dog is thinking.
Tell me.
Scott McMullen (2:14)
It's a damn good question.
Greg (2:16)
But no, I'm not trying to be contrarian, but how do they figure that out? How do they figure out that a dog doesn't have a sense of time?
Kelly (2:24)
Yeah.
Scott McMullen (2:25)
How?
Greg (2:26)
I'm perplexed by that.
Scott McMullen (2:28)
I'm not-
Kelly (2:28)
There's more people than us.
Greg (2:29)
It may be right, it may be true, I just don't know how they find that out, you know?
Scott McMullen (2:33)
I always wonder, because sometimes, like the other day I said to Amy, I'm like, do you think Thomas is happy? And he was purring, and she's like, you know, we've been together for 10 years.
Greg (2:45)
Yeah.
Scott McMullen (2:45)
Not once. Have you ever said, I wonder if Amy's happy? And I said, well, I mean, but Amy-
Kayla (2:51)
Of course she's happy.
Scott McMullen (2:52)
Yeah, of course she is.
Greg (2:53)
She's only human.
Scott McMullen (2:54)
Oh, God, absolutely.
Greg (2:55)
Who can not succumb to the charms of your glowing personality?
Scott McMullen (2:59)
Why else would she cry at the night?
Kayla (3:01)
Thank you. She's just so happy.
Scott McMullen (3:04)
She goes, are you serious? And I'm like, I want him to be happy. Yeah.
Greg (3:09)
You've never cared about anything like this.
Scott McMullen (3:11)
She was just like, wow, I think I'm going to bed at 3 o'clock in the afternoon?
Greg (3:15)
Why are you doing that? When you brought up cats, I thought for sure you were bringing up... I'm going to gift this as a bonus. This is not my five things, but it'll make all of you feel better if you have a cat.
A 93 country study. So this is not a small sample. Reveals a surprising link between cats and national happiness. Cats make people happier.
Scott McMullen (3:43)
How can they not? Duh! When my first alarm goes off at 3.30, Greg, this noise...
It's him at the door.
Greg (3:53)
He's ready.
Scott McMullen (3:54)
He's ready to get his day going.
Kayla (3:55)
He's excited to see you.
Scott McMullen (3:56)
He's excited to see me. Where's Dad?
